Greetings,

New to this site. Seems like the people involved in it's set up did a great job.

I am considering buying a new truck. I am looking at the F-150's, Sierra 1500's and the Titan SE. All are 4x4's w/extended cabs. I have been trying to price them the same but the Titan has alot more to offer than the other two I am looking at. So this is why I am leaning towards the Tiatn.

But after reviewing several website forums (inclusive of this one), the "issues" that this truck has had or has makes me alittle concerned. I understand that all vehicles have their problems and that each one can be different within a model. First question, any known problems, issues, etc with the 2006 models as of yet?

Taking options out of the mix, would you guys buy another Titan again knowing what you know now? Take into consideration any problems you might have had, worries, gas mileage (how bad is it really when compared to other trucks), etc....

I would just hate to buy a new vehicle knowing that it has issues and then have to have it in the shop all of the time. Been there down that with my wifes previous auto, a 96 Bonneville.

Thanks. Any suggestions, recommendations, etc. would be helpful.

I would still buy the Titan, I have an 05 since March and have had no problems yet, I have a sqeek or two in the dash but thats it. Gas miliage is similiar to other full size trucks probally better then the Guzzling Hemi, If you get Big Tow or Off Road Package you will lose a mile or so per gallon because of the lower gearing with those options.

2005 KC SE 4x2
Radiant Silver
Big Tow
Pop. with Captains

You will find "issues" on any site. The amout of "issues" is minimal in number and seriousness compared to the big 3. The "issues" mainly plagued the '04s. As long as you aren't buying an '04 used, you shouldn't have any, as Nissan has stepped up and corrected them. As for gas mileage, its within a mile or so of other 1500 class trucks. At worst, you'd get maybe 1 mpg difference from one to another, and I couldn't tell you if the Titan would be better or worse.

I have an '05 Armada, which from the frontseat forward is identical, and I've only had to have the new rotors put on under warranty and a squeaky driver's seat, because of my large assets, which Nissan replaced, again for free. Bottomline, if I had to do it over again, and had a $10k discount on any other truck, I'd still go Nissan again.

I've had major issues (brake judder and rear differential failure) and I would still buy this truck again hands down. We drove them all, 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton. This was my favorite, it is actually enjoyable to drive. Sure I didn't like having it in the shop a few days, but it's well worth it when you get back behind the wheel.

I don't believe there are any known problems with '06s but I wouldn't expect your truck to be trouble-free.

I drove the F-150, Ram, and Tundra, and the Titan by far was the most enjoyable to drive.

I just got my Titan yesterday. I drove all of the other trucks, F-250, Ram, Tundra, and Silverado. The Titan jsut has more fetures. But I would drive em all and see for your self, as everyones taists are different. That is why there are so many different choices. Plus, shopping cars is a hell of a lot of fun, at least for me.

I liked the looks of the '06 Titan so much that I couldn't have possibly gone with anything else. And with the praise Nissan has received it was a no brainer. The ONLY negative criticism I have of my Titan is the interior knobs and handles just seem a little "cheap" and flimsy. I am just being super picky and as objective as I can be; but who gives a crap in the overall picture. I love my Titan sooo much I can barely bring myself to drive my commuter car at all anymore! Hope this helps.

Greetings,

Thanks for such quick replys. Last December I drove a 05 Titan King Cab 4x4 with the bench seat. At the time, the dealer did not want to help me out with my trade. Several days later he did, but too late. Christmas came and I had lost the urge to shop for a truck. I am going to be test driving a 06 King Cab 4x4 tomorrow. This truck has the captains chairs. How are they for comfort? I thought the bench seat was comfy. The truck I actually want is in Mass, but before I buy it (have to put down a non refundable deposit) I wanted to test drive something local that had the captains seats. How is the stereo system? This truck comes with the standard 6 CD player. Good sound? Any idea on how many speakers?

As recommended, I did test drive two 06 Seirra 1500 (One had the SLE1 and the other had the SLE2 Packages) 4x4's. One had a bench (SLE1), one had bucket seats (SLE2). The bench seat was more comfortable than their bucket seat. The truck was nice. People have made comments about GMC fit and finish. I think the people who write these articles just change the builders name. The reviews about fit and finish seem word for word as the Titan fit and finish. The GMC looked okay, felt fine. Yeah, maybe alittle outdated but fine. I have no interest in test driving the Dodge. Maybe I will try a Ford next week. Just to compare and make a fair judgement. To be honest, my first choice since it was introduced has been the Titan.

The 05 Titan I test drove a while ago looked fine. The only problem with the Titan I had was the shifter lever (I am not an auto guy for lack of a better term). Placement of that was not that good. But then again, GMC's wasn't much better on it's placement. As for cheap materials, who knows, who cares. Every vehicle has it's issues. And everyone has their opinions, good or bad.

I will let you guys know how I make out with the 06 Titan. I appreciate all of the candor. Thanks once again.

Other than the brake issue (I knew before I bought the truck) my truck is flawless. Brakes were fixed in June 05 and still perfect 10,000 miles later. Yes there people on these boards that vocalize their issues but most everyone would still choose the Titan if they were out looking to buy a truck again. If you buy it you will NOT be disappointed. Thanks for coming here for advice, good luck with your decision.

I bought my titan as a fun vehicle, and I have a construction company, and own a 2001 25000hd, and recently owned a ford f150 as well. The gas mileage in the Titan is worse then both of these other vehicles.

I like the way the Titan drives, but I think the interior to the eyes looks nicer then the Chevy's... but much of the finish when you actually put your hands on it feels cheaper to me, then the new chevy's and the new ford f150s. I hate fords though. I like the transmission better on the Titan, the five speed is smoother then the standard 4 that comes on a chevy.
For the same price I could have purchased a chevy silverado z71, LT1 Ext cab though. I like my Titan better so far, just from a looks standpoint.
Oh yeah, I think the stock Titan Neoprene feeling cloth on the SE feels cheap to me.

I've had two Titan an 04 SE KC and an 05 SE KC Texas Titan , the later had some cosmetic improvements. Really happy with it. Runs really good. My Brother has an FX4 and he regrets not buying the Titan now. You'll be happy with it. Just make sure it can potentionally do what you intend for it to do. Good Luck.

Referring to the materials the seats are made out of. When I drove the 05, I didn't think the seats looked that bad. It was different than the "traditional" cloth style seating. There have been several postings regarding the "feel" of the material. That it feels like neoprene. I didn't know one's *** could tell the difference between leather, cloth, neoprene, etc. JUST KIDDING FOLKS!
Is it water/stain repellent material?

Oh, how is the road noise? I heard that the new Fords are pretty quiet. The two GMC's I drove where totally different. Same motors, tires and rims. The cheaper one was quieter than the more expensive one.

This is a great website. Alot of good information on it. Keep up the good work. Do not know if I will get out to test drive one today. It is raining up here.

Oh, you guys will get a kick out of this one. It must have been an omen.

Around here (Rhode Island) you will see the occasional Titan. My neighbor has one, but I only see him in the early morning when he heads out to work. Might pass one on the way to work only once a week or every other week. Anyhow, while I was out test driving the GMC's the other day, I passed no less than 3 Titans in 15 minutes. Then yesterday when I was going to the bank for the pre qualified auto loan, passed a crew cab Titan that was bright red. Stood out in the crowd of vehicles. Must be a sign.

Had our Titan about a month now. 06 loaded with every option other than DVD and Nav.

Driven it from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Seattle, Washington, about a 1000 miles each way. Gotta say I loved the ride of the truck. Hated the gas milage, but was not expecting great gas milage. With great power comes poor gas milage. :) Hoping the new tonneau cover will help the highway milage a bit, since it was bought for towing.

I'd still buy the Titan over everything else we looked at.

The interior with the console shift was a big feature for me. The 10 speaker RF stereo more than meets our needs, we added an MP3 player to plug into the AUX.

Not a big fan of the VDC, usually its turned off if I'm in a frisky mood. The transmission is silky smooth, barely feel it shift.

This is by far the nicest pickup I've owned.

Sorry to ask some silly questions. But I am at a lose for some definintion to some parts.

For the following, what is it and what does it do:

VDC
E-Locker
ALBS (might be something like that jumble of letters)

I have seen these and more within other topics within this forum. Some have been referenced to the rear end failures, others not. Do I need to have these items? I am sure that some if not all come with any packages.

Thanks

I had a Titan.

Had Brake Judder which wasn't concerning. After that, I had complete loss of brakes which was a major concern. Roughly 3 weeks to a month after the complete loss of brakes, the rear differential started having problems.

These mechanical problems were in addition to several electronic problems and build quality problems.

Since I pull a camper up to 750 miles away from my home, I couldn't have an unreliable vehicle, even if warranty items were being repaired efficently.

I traded in the Titan on a Pathfinder. Pathfinder has been everything I expected in a Nissan vehicle while the Titan was not.

I would not buy another Titan until a complete redesign happens. This including paint quality, build quality and drivetrain re-engineering.

Perhaps the '06s are better, but I still wouldn't trust the drivetrain since Nissan has done nothing about the rear differential failure problem, other than replacing them when needed.

Good luck on your decision.

Have a good one.

VDC = Vehicle Dynamic Control (Manufacturer calls it ESC) Traction control, tied in with stability control.

E-Locker = Electronic locking rear differential. Locks the rear drive wheels together so that they operate as one. Not good for turning and very dangerous, but very effective in Off Road traction.

ABLS = Active Brake Limited Slip. Instead of having a mechanical limited slip differential, Nissan chose to use the electronic limited slip where braking action causes the torque shift to the none slipping wheel for traction opposed to a mechanic limited slip differential's clutch causing the torque shift to the none slipping wheel.

I would have as many as possible. VDC is for safety and it's very VERY effective. ABLS is for better traction in snow, mud, sand, gravel, and other loose surfaces. I would not own a vehicle without Limited Slip. E-locker is for the best traction while off roading, but is dangerous for normal driving. E-Locker is only beneficial if your a hardcore off roader.

I would not own a truck, Pickup or SUV based vehicle, without 4WD and limited slip. VDC while not a necessity has proven to me to be a very useful and effective option (standard on Pathfinder and Armada).

Have a good one.

I have an 06 Crew Cab LE. From what I've read, it looks like Nissan has done a decent job of fixing the new vehicle bugs that came with the 04 and early 05s. Maybe not to the satidfaction of those who bought those vehicles, but good for those who are currently buying an 06. Anyway, I've had mine for a couple of weeks and I really didn't think there was any comparison to the titan for the combination of drive, features, looks, and value. You do make a compromise with the crew cab, because the bed is small, although many of the truck makers are headed in that direction with the larger cab spaces. This is my first truck and first 4X4. I have not used the 4X4, but I love driving the truck so far. My gas mileage was about 13 for the first two tanks, which is a little disappointing, but I'm hoping it will get a little better with breakin. This is a family car/ boat hauler for me, and I think I made the right choice for my needs.

Not to deviate from the thread, but just for FYI purposes...that is not an FX4. The off-road package comes with body colored bumpers, foglights, more aggressive looking 18 inch wheels and tires, and sits nearly 2 inches higher in factory trim. I'm no expert, but that appears to be a 2 wheel drive XLT with stickers on it.

Now back to your regularly scheduled Titan prospective owner thread :upsidedow Being from an F150/Titan owning family, both trucks are excellent choices. IMO, the F150 with the FX4 package beats the Titan in appearance (especially the beautiful interior), but the Titan is superior when it comes to sheer power. The Nissan also has an awesome exhaust note straight out of the factory. Both trucks are excellent choices, and you should drive the Ford before making your final purchase. Good luck!

I have a 05 LE CC loaded up, it's almost 1 year old and I have just over 19k miles on her now.
I really only have had two real problems with this truck.

1. Was the brake judder, was fixed with TSB back in SEP. of 05 brakes have been great ever sense, zero problems after 12k miles put on them.

And 2. Was the frozzen door handles, which were the accutators locks and remotes, this was also fixed back in Dec. of 05, I also have not had one problem with my doors not opening or shutting when it's cold outside so far after this repair. They did issue a TSB for this as well.

So really only two problems that were bad and had too be fixed ASAP.

Not too bad only two problems and Nissan issued TSB'S for both of them now so they are fixing the things that need to be fixed.

The Nissan Titan is right now hands down the best 1/2 ton truck you can buy period. And I feel I got my moneys worth with this purchase, I cant say the same thing with my past purchases of Ford f150's!

Once you own a Titan there is no SUBSTITUTE!

I've driven all of the lastest big 3 1/2 ton 4x4 trucks and none of them compares to it ZERO.
This 05 is the best running truck that I have ever owned and it's not even close!

So I tell everybody I meet to go and buy one you wont regret it!

There is no SUBSTITUE!

Just my views on this. :)

I have to give my 2 sense worth in too. I compared all the other trucks as well and found the Titan to be the best hands down. I bought an 06 Crewcab 4X4 and love it. I only have 7000 miles on mine and have had no problems so far. I will buy many more!!!!!!

I just picked up an 06' 4x4 LE CC almost 2 weeks old and 500 miles later. I've already upgraded to a Flowmaster 70 series muffler and Armada Air dam mod. Love the truck, gobs of power compared to my Tundra. My buddy had a 04 Armada and is now Nissan is in the process of taking it back due to brake problems. 2 years later Nissan seems to build a quality truck fixin' all the little quirks that they seem to have problems with it. Was trying to look for a 05' model used but loved the option for the DUAL Climate Zones of the 06'. For those who are seeking a 1/2 ton truck this is it!! Ford, Chevy, and Dodge can't keep up. A K&N Rep told me yesterday that the ONLY truck that chirped the wheels 1st to 2nd gear on their dyno was the TITAN. If you never driven a TITAN go to your nearest dealer turn off the VDC and let her RIP!! Then, test drive the FORD, Chevy, or Dodge and see if they compare. You won't be sorry.
