I have been having the worst luck this year. So I was reversing out of stall and the next thing I know, BAM. I hit one of those stupid yellow metal post. I looked back and everything looked clear, but I guess I didnt see the damn thing because the back end is so high. Plus my backup sensor didnt even make a sound until after I hit it(now it wont go off). So I called the dealer that I bought the truck from to see if this is something they would cover under warranty. They said that they would only cover the actuall sensor and not any other damage. I told them thats a bunch of BS, the sensor malfunctioned. I thought that the sensor is for those times that you cant see behind your vehicle, even when looking back.I mean what if a kid was behind me. Thank god there wasnt. She told me that I should call customer care and take it up with them. So my ? for you fine folks here on TT, do you think I have a case? Has anyone else had this type of problem. Please advise on what I should do next. Thanks

I'm sorry to say this, but I don't believe Nissan has any obligation to do more than what they've offered already. I'm really not trying to be ugly, but you're right about one thing. What if it was a kid back there?

You the driver has the responsibility of making sure you're clear to back up. Not your truck.

What if your sensor was dirty and didn't work? Would you want them to pay for that because you got it dirty? It would be kinda hard to prove the sensor worked prior to hittting the post. Hate to say it, but your probably S.O.L. Hope it works out for you.

This is directly from the Titan owners manual.

WARNING
The rear sonar system is a convenience
but it is not a substitute for proper backing.
Always turn and check that it is safe to
do so before backing up. Always back up
slowly.

I hear your pain. My truck is in the body shop right now for a minor dent thanks to my wife. She calls me on the cell phone asking if I want to go out to dinner. Five minutes later, she pulls up the driveway. I am parked in the garage. So we get ready to leave and I back out of the garage. Since my driveway has quite a grade, I cant see her truck below the tailgate. Why she decided to park towards the middle of the driveway after her call? I don't know. Needless to say I caught my side fender against her bumper. The sonar did not alert me.

It's my fault (her fault) and not something Nissan is responsible for.
