I have an 04 CC I have had a knocking noise coming from the center console for quite some time. I thought I had fixed it with the ground wire fix in other threads. When it got cold it came back.
Hppens when cold and warming up.
RPM's don't match or change noise.
No ryhme or reason no pattern of noise.
Sounds like tapping the handle of screw driver on table while holding the metal part.
Happens driving or parked. Drive, Reverse, Nuetral.
Can't find a way to make it stop.
Turning Ac or heat makes no change.
??????????
I could sure use some help. I don't have the cash to go to dealer unless I can figure out what needs to be done first. I am guessing it might be a control valve or something. I just don't want to spend a G letting them replace parts until they find the problem.

Rattles are hard to find. Probably where the little runner in the storage area meets the shifter gate? mine somtimes makes noise. Find it and put a double sided adheisive tape like 3m there. It is kinda thick and soft so it wont make contact. I had one i fixed by doing this in the furthest most upper/left of the dash, by the a pillar. The corner was making contact with the metal. Good luck and take a pic of where it is if you fix it!

BTW the plastic in all cars is harder when cold and can tend to make noise till the sun comes out or heater comes on

Thanks for responding, this is more of a knock though. It does it when the truck is sitting still. I am wondering if there isn't a solenoid going bad in the hvac or something??? Really frustrating. Thanks again

is it coming from the acual shiftergate? I heard some in the past saying there was a clicking noise in an old thread. Dont remember the outcome

I know I am going to sound stupid but what is the shifter gate? I have the crew cab with the bench seat. I sounds like it is coming from behind the drink holder, for guys with bucket seats that is about a foot below the radio. Thanks for input I can get.

oh you have the colum shifter, im not too familiar with that configuration. Someone said they removed the seat in the middle or somthing and found a drinkholder?? its a long shot but maby it poped off? sounds like you mean more in the lower dash area though. Ask Baseballfnz for a diagram of the front maby you can look through it and find somthing loose

Just started having this problem also did you ever find a fix?

My truck is doing this exact thing and it is getting worse. It has been driving me crazy lately.

Anyone have any ideas? I really don't feel like paying the dealership.....
