Ok so I have a 2004 T with stock radio and 6 disk changer. It is a club cab so it also has rear controls as well. My bezel does not say Rockford or Bose on it but the sound it still amazing. Loud deep base crisp mid. What would upgrading to a RF or B do for my sound? Would it be a direct swap or would I need to add a titan amp and sub? Or even more speakers.

Thanks Friends

Number of speakers will stay the same I think. Personally, if you just want to upgrade I would go aftermarket. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck, easier install and use, and more customization.

If you go for an OEM rockford system you'll have to get a new dash piece, new faceplate, amp, sub, harness, and much more (not even including the BS that Nissan calls "navigation") and it won't be cheap.

When most of us upgrade our speakers we move away from the 6x9's in the lower doors because they're just not great at producing good sound. We convert to 6.5" speakers that can provide better ranges. Converting is as simple as fabricating or buying MDF adapters that screw into the 6x9 holes and have a cutout for 6.5's.

You can get great sound out of your oem head unit. I don't think I would change what you have now for an oem RF. If you like the look then that's another story.I agree it might be spendy to do, unless you fine somebody that is getting rid of their RF setup.

There are some excellent sounding 6x9's on the market. That's a huge myth about oval speakers not sounding as good as round, not true at all.

Most people change to a 6.5" driver because there's a ton more options to choose from.

You said it sounds amazing now. Maybe you have aftermarket speakers already? Think about adding a subwoofer and an amp to power it (definitely not the oem RF sub!)
Music sounds so much better with some good smooth rich bottom end.

I'll second the idea to go aftermarket. I have the Nissan nav setup, and it's not great. I use google maps on my phone rather than the factory nav, if that's any indication of the ease of use. Buying a new CD every year is another issue (at $150 a pop) so again, google maps on my Android OS phone is the better choice.

If I were in your shoes, I'd consider a sub (see post above for a potential source (I've not used his services but reputation is good here on the forum)), an aftermarket head unit with better bluetooth integration (music streaming, not just phone), and an amp to really wake everything up. Some aftermarket speakers might be a nice add, too. The best part is, you can get this kind of system in pieces if you don't have all the coin at once. Maybe a sub and amp to start, then aftermarket head, then speakers, or something like that.

You can't just swap to the RF OEM
As your truck is t wired for it.. Also I don't know what you mean by a "B"

You could get the RF HU and face and use aftermarket amps and speakers. That sounds great

If you go aftermarket get a good HU with Nav. Don't use your phone unless you don't mind being let down when you don't have signal
Which is when I normally need the Nav the most.

you're lucky, my same setup sounded like crap imo.

I replaced the door speakers with low cost aftermarket (no need for high end with such little power the headunit produces , unless you were upgradng the head unit later) and added a powered sub under the seat.
still not great but better. anything on the radio still doesn't sound good. I use the aux port most of the time and stream pandora on my phone.

There are several very good "offline" voice-guidance gps nav apps for Android. Both in paid and free versions. A couple of the paid versions are only $5 or so. Integration with the head unit is great, but there are some pitfalls - primarily map updates which may or may not be free or even possible. As with anything, do your homework and get the solution which is right for you.

What would be really great is the ability to mimic my phone screen on my head unit's touch screen and be able to control function from there. Just jump in the car, auto-connect via Bluetooth, and anything I need is suddenly on my dash. That would be terrific. It's available in somewhat limited format now, but not in a true emulation and control setup.

The problem is not necessarily the HU... or the power of it... it's the crap signal it pushes out...

I have the stock RF unit... but anyone who has heard my system cannot believe it. What you need is a processor... to clean up that muddy signal from the underpowered head unit.

Oh, and with the speakers, crossovers and amps I have, EVERYTHING should sound great, right? WRONG!!! If I use the AUX plug on the stock HU, it is pure crap! I plug into the processor and voila... sound heaven...

It's not what you got... it's what you use.

Sry. Didn't know. In S Arkansas, if Nav depended on cell service you would stay lost.. Still prefer it integrated to the HU

Which is precisely why I said we should all do our homework and get the solution which is right for our own needs. No apology necessary, either. I was just sharing options. There really is no wrong answer.
