You can use the oiled k&N or the dry Amsoil filter. They both produce similar gains.

I did the DIY air box mod and put in a K&N filter. Others mentioned how the "butt dyno" told them that their truck performed better, or that it had a "growl" that it never had before. Performance wise, I can't tell any difference. It does make a little more noise when it's floored. I wouldn't call it a growl though. The only benefit I see so far is that it does seem to spread the airflow out over more of the filter judging by the dust pattern on it.

Someone dynoed the airbox mod with a performance drop in, and if I remember correctly, they picked up 3-4 ponies.

You were wondering about other "must do's". The 2* timing advance would be HIGH on my short list.
