I'm considering installing a factory subwoofer in my 2008 SE. I know that I will have to supply an amp to drive it, since my factory Rockford fosgate stereo does not have it built in.

I'm considering this because I know it will be a simple bolt in install and won't take up any (usable) space inside my KC. I know I'm not going to get rock concert base out of it. My main interest is to give the overall audio a much fuller sound than it has now.

So what are your thoughts on the OEM sub? How good does it sound?

You have a rockford and it doesn't have the factory sub??

It did sound really well when thats all I had for what it was.

I can't say I have any complaints about the OEM RF system or the sub. I get clear highs, good punch from the mids and clean vocals, and the sub, while not earth shattering, will run you out of the cab if you really blast it. Embarrassed my son driving back from a backpack trip with an old recording of "Brass Monkey" by the Beastie Boys. That little sub will put out some bass when you adjust things right. Most of the time, I keep it far more tame and just let it build the foundation for the music in the cab.

But it's not a bad setup, all things considered.

It's muddy and if you compare it to an actual bass system, you would never go back to it.

There are complete underseat sub/amp packages available, not too expensive, that will sound 50 times better... You just gotta know where to look... (hint: look at my sig)

I would say hit up tech12volt as well if you don't have the sub already. He can get/build you an under seat that will sound much better.

The OEM sub isn't awful, but it's just enough to provide more than the speakers.
