dr coilovers to replace current set up, will they work?

hey guys
currently i have an 05 titan 4x4 with a 2" prg spacer, bilstein 4600's, rc uca's and 08 moog 4x4 coils. considering picking up the used dr coil-overs in the for sale section. my objective would be to obtain a better ride. my question is currently i am 40.25 in the front and 40.5 rear of my truck and i love the stance. will i be able to obtain the same amount of lift with the dr coils and achieve a better ride?

any info greatly appreciated!

thanks

I can't say for sure on how much height you will get. BUT if you don't crank up the preload too much, the truck will ride great on road, and you will really notice it off road. The newer coils probably gave you 1" of lift? so you're at 3" over stock? You may be able to add a 1" spacer from PRG to the DR coils and keep the height and also keep the nice ride.

Contacting ICON would be your best bet to find out how much height they say you can get without trashing the ride. I just went through the same thing with my FOX coils, 1" spacer was the best for me.
thanks i will reach out to them. i do not really drive off road much dirt roads to hunt. really want to keep the height and gain some ride. i did the prg 2" spacer and the 08 coils, pre coils i was 38.5 post i'm 40.25. im sure it will settle out some...end about 1.5 inches.
spoke to icon. the rep stated you can not use a spacer with the coils, they will over travel. he did state that even cranked at 3" of lift they would ride better then what i currently have...which i find hard to believe. anyone else have any info or insight or someone i can call to speak with? hard to get answers if im not actually buying anything!
I'd have to agree with what Honda said, and also with what the icon rep said. The coilovers will be valved different than your 4600's and coils, meaning they will for most purposes have a better ride. As for the 1" spacer on top, they're not going to recommend it because they don't sell it. PRG sells it because he knows it'll work, and I have no doubt you will be fine. I ran spacers on my fox's while I still had my titan, both in the 1" and 6" category and had no issues. The Icons won't be much different if at all.

I say go for it. I don't know how used they are, but a rebuild wouldn't be a bad idea most likely. You will be far happier in the end with the icons vs. the 4600s and coils. Trust me.

Hell, I'm probably going full icon on my brand new 16 taco and I've been researching for months now. Icon's are sweet. Even used, you'll love em.

when i start comparing prices for rebuild ($125 each) and the cost for the used units i'm within a couple hundred of new fox units. any thoughts on how new fox units will compare with the used/rebuilt icons? if you guys feel the spacer will work with either the icons or fox units i feel better about keeping my height and getting a better ride back. thanks for the help and taking the time to weigh in!
I ran the fox 2.0s and liked them. Honda has fox 2.5s. Either is a decent option if it is within your price range. I haven't ridden in a truck with icons, but the reviews are pretty much fantastic across the board. So any of the 3 options would be nice coming from a basic strut. If the icons are 2.5 body (I believe that is all they make but don't quote me), then it would be more comparable to the fox 2.5s.

I guess it comes down to what you are comfortable with. Used and rebuilt, or brand new. Either option in this situation isn't that bad. If it was me, I'd go with the icons. But I'd still feel conflicted
i'd do what pa said. get those DR's cheaper then asking, get them rebuilt, and then slap them on and see where you're at height wise. If you need, you can pick up a PRG 1" spacer, some .5" longer bolts, (the spacer measures roughly .5") and get the lift back.

and yeah the Dr's are 2.5" shocks. At the same time you can get NEW FOX 2.0s' for 800. thats a stupid good deal IMO.

But I'd still feel conflicted
haha, he pm'd me, my message back was anything but helpful and clear. if anything he's more conflicted. I think either direction is a safe bet, BUT if he loves the ride of his truck now that is 99% on road, it may take some tinkering to get the truck to ride similar on road with coilovers...case in point, me for the past year lmao

He PM'd be also. I don't tend to even look at the open side of TT much anymore because of the move and my constant struggle to figure out what all I want my "Mid Travel" taco to be

I still think that a set of Icons will be exponentially better than moogs and 4600s. But you are the master Gerrit, because you have fancy fox 2.5s with color matched coils.

I bow to your broness....bro.

Now learn to weld gooder so you can do my cab mount chop in a few months :D

hahahaha well all i know is Fox has no travel but rides plush. SAWS have ALL the travel.

i'll be sure to read up on body mount chops and shock tab relocate tacos. english.

It's a good read man!
I would listen to the above advice, myself I would get the DR's rebuilt an see how you sit. 100% they will ride nicer in every situation, compared to your current set up. I liked my 5100's on my last truck but there is no comparing the ride quality with the radflo extended travel bracket lifted coilovers. The DR/Icons are well known for being one of the best we have available for our trucks
thanks for the input guys. i loved the ride with the 4600s and mini lift 2" block, when i added the moog springs i now love the look but not the ride so much. sounds like a coil over with the 1" prg spacer will be better in every way and still maintain my look/lift. where is the best place to buy the fox 2.0's if i go the new route?
I would order them through either TAP or Dirtking. Either is a solid option.
Just so you know incase you're still interested in the used DR they're actually 155$ to be rebuilt. Not sure why they are a little more than the icons which is 125$ because I thought they were the same but the rep that I talk to when I called icon told me that. Plus if you want new springs they're 75 each.
I want aware they were more. I suppose the makes the case for the foxes stronger. I see that guys have ran spacers with the foxes without issue.

Hmmm.
link is in my sig to get the fox 2.0's
So the way I'm seeing this and what I'm gathering from those of you that so graciously took the time to share some knowledge and experiance with me is if I go dr or fox 2.0 I can get a spacer and achieve the same height I'm at and get a far superior ride. Fox is new but will not be as large 2.0 vs the 2.5 of the dr. And will not be as nice of an end product. If I do the Dr I will have them rebuilt and I will do new Springs just so I know I'm good. When it's said and done the cost will be about the same.

I like the idea of the spacer with the coilover to not have to crank them all the way up (with Dr or fox). Does the above sound right?

Thanks again guys.
Sounds about right man. Honestly, I don't think you will need to replace the springs on the icons, which can save you some coin. But, in the end, it's all what you are comfortable with. I think that any of your options are solid. If I had to choose, the Icons are the way to go. But, brand new is brand new, and brand new has a warranty. The fox's will treat you just as well as the icons on and off road from the sounds of how you drive your truck, so do what you are comfortable with.
