Has anyone watched this video yet? This is not my video FYI.

Summary: The emissions equipment become super gunked up and cause operational issues for the Cummins engine in the Titan. It sounds like new parts are hard to get and will be harder to get as time goes on.

I am kind of glad I went with the standard gasser after watching this. I really wanted the diesel but it seems this engine has its design flaws.

I watched it last week. Yeah, it looks pretty bad inside. I wanted the diesel too but couldn’t justify the price difference for my needs. Definitely glad I went with the gas version.

The filters on the diesel are costly and need to be changed annually to prevent problems with the Cummins. This will also be a factor on resale values, so keep those receipts and maintenance records for a XD if you own one.

The current Ford 6.7L diesel is not without emissions issues. The engine itself is solid, it's all the crap downstream of the engine that is the issue. One of the easiest ways to kill the truck is to drive it "easy". These engines need to be worked hard. It really helps to clear out the DPF (diesel particulate filter) by working them.

The 6.7L is Ford's fifth diesel I believe. (6.9, 7.3, 6.0, 6.4, 6.7) Not all of them have been winners. Sadly, it doesn't look like Nissan will ever get a chance to make it to a second diesel engine.

My oil changes aren't cheap as they involve 13 quarts of diesel-specific oil, which costs around $20/gallon. The fuel filters are ~$50, but the interval is 25,000 miles I believe. Ford doesn't specify a time limit.

Owning a diesel Titan sounds like a nightmare. The 6.0 and 6.4 Ford engines were widely panned, but there are some that have well over 250K miles on them and the owners swear by them.

I didn't watch the video, but that trailer looks to be well over what the Titan XD is rated for.

A 36' trailer with a car loaded inside sounds like this Titan XD was pulling quite a bit more than it was rated for. They don't mention what kind of maintenance was provided. As for Nissan not being able to develop a second diesel engine, remember that Cummins is now free to sell its 5.0 TT V8 diesel to whoever they want. Don't you think it's notable that no other car company has stepped up to purchase a supply of these engines?

Ford has been developing their own diesels since the 2011 model year. Given how well they have done with that, I doubt they'll outsource their engines.

Obviously, RAM uses the Cummins engine in their HD trucks. The EcoDiesel in the Jeep line is made by a Fiat Chrysler subsidiary. That they didn't leverage Cummins for those engines is telling.

The Cummins/Titan engine had such promise. Huge MPG claims early on and the Cummins name. So sad.

This guy is a mechanic. I'm sure he takes care of his engines/maintenance. Also, I hear people saying it should be driven hard to let the engine get hot and so the emissions parts can burn off the sludge. This engine should have been clean based on the "driven hard" theory. It is just a bad design that Cummins created. This should be a warning to potential Cummins Titan buyers.

Just because the guy is a mechanic doesn't mean his vehicles are properly maintained. I know too many mechanics driving junk.

that's true. whats the saying about someone being a plumber and their house has lots of leaks? you don't want to do the same work that you enjoy doing in your off time or it becomes work?
