Hey guys, I switched from my flowmaster 50 series dual in dual out side exit to the same setup but with a Magna flow, on my 07 4x4 . I love the glass pack sound that I was after but the higher droan in the cabin is hard to deal with . Especially now thats its colder and windows are up. Does anyone have any ideas how to help cut down the droan. I was thinking about a heat shield to seperate the muffler more from the under cabin or wrapping the mullfer with header insulating tape. Just a few ideas any others . I really want to keep the muffler as I love the sound.
Thanks for any help

Several of us have reduced the drone level over 50% by cutting off the last 12" of tailpipe. Just do a thread search using the words reduced drone.

As soon as i had my magnaflow installed i cut the exhaust off right after the last hanger where the tip is welded, and i have the 14" magnaflow which is the loudest and let me tell you i have absolutely no drone in the cab what so ever. My buddy has the flowmaster in his supercrew f-150 and the drone from the flowmaster makes my head feel like its gonna pop. However i think that you might be getting more drone due to the fact that you have DUAL OUT SIDE EXIT.:smoke:

I have the magnaflow dual in dual out with dump tips right after the tires. Im not sure which magnaflow it is but it is fairly large. There is no droan at all. It is as quiet as stock exhaust until you step on it. Then it sounds awesome.

So its not the body of the muffler under the crew cab ut the pipes and making them shorter will eas the droan I'm guessing the shorter the better. Does anyone on any (Pa) state inspection ramifications of a pipes that do not exit outside of the body. I guess I'll have to cut those expensive dual tips or can I have them put back on but further up.?????
Thanks so much for all of your help guys

I don' think the tips are going to do you any good. I think the dual tail pipes is what causing the majority of the problem. If you really like the look, then turn the stereo up louder. I have a dual in single out Magnaflow with a 3" tail pipe and have almost no drone at all. The muffler is 5x11 and is 22"'s long. Sounds awesome when I'm on the gas, other then that its pretty tame.

What is the part # of your Magnaflow? I can't find any Magnaflow's with dual in/single out. There are plenty single in/dual outs though. Is yours mounted backwards? Would it even work properly if it were? I want to swap just my muffler without changing anything else and the only one I can find is a Flowmaster 50.

I had a resonator on my truck and it didn't do anything for drone just the volume of the exhaust.

I have part # 12158 and those series of mufflers are all reverse flow, so you can run it either way you like, i have an 07 so i needed dual in and single out. hope that helps you.
The 12158 is dual 2.5" in and 2.5" out. Aren't 07-08's 2" in 2.5" out? That part # would be the 12280.

i wanted a nice deep sound to my truck and because it has 4 cats i knew that i wanted the smallest case ( 14" ) from magnaflow, however they do not make a 2.25 dual in and 2.5 single out in the 14" muffler so i got part #12158 took it to a local muffler shop and he got it all welded up, trust me if you go to a good shop they will know how to make it work.:gunz:

I have the P/N 12289 which is a 3" in and 3" out. It has Inlet offset, and measures 5" x 8" x 24" long Satin Finish Body (30" O.A.L.). Just thought I'd throw that in FYI. My shop thought the system was 3" having looked at the tailpipe, so they ordered a 3" by mistake. But they made it work, and it works well!

I'm running 2-1/2" going into it, and 3" coming out of it, back to the dual Custom Side Exit Tips, which are 3-1/2" Polished MagnaFlow Slant Tips.

It's on and it's pretty sweet. More droan than stock, obviously, but not that bad. Sounds great, not that much louder than stock until you step on it. I'm still taking it easy on her though since I've only got a lil over 800 mi.. Once the muffler breaks in everything should improve.
