O.K. guys/gals,

Just bought a new 2008.5 Titan 4x4 SE Crew Cab..............I was so excited to know I was going to have a MUCH smaller truck that would tow 9300 lbs and something small enough my wife can drive it comfortablly.

Well, that excitement was short lived...........I found out on "another" Titan board that my Titan was not one with the BIG TOW package. I was initially told by the dealer that ALL Titans in 4x4 have the gears in the axles that will allow the 9300 lb. towing. I found later, that is not true. My dealer, however, has told me that they are going to do everything they can to make it right. I was sold a truck under the assumption that it would tow what I needed. I dont know if they are going to add the gears and a receiver hitch or what or give me a new truck with the BT package.

I traded in my 01 Ford F-250 Crew Cab V-10 for this Titan. I am hoping it will tow my load without much if any issue. I am "guessing" and only guessing that at most, it weighs about 7000lbs. could be less, could be more?????? Its an 18ft. steel deck car trailer with a chopped up 4-Runner on it, never got an accurate weight on the whole setup.

Here is the load, think the Titan will handle it o.k.?

Will I need the stabilizer bars on the hitch?

If I "have" to buy the receiver hitch, will the Nissan one with the built in 7 prong plug be the best bet for strength?

****well, nevermind on the pic, I cant post a pic till I have 15 posts.*******:crying:

Congrats on the truck...Sorry about the crooked dealer...

The whole towing thing is vastly mis-understood...

Although the Titan is rated for 9300 lbs, that rating is basically an empty truck, a 150 lb driver and 1/2 a tank of gas, and the tow rating goes down by every pound you add to the truck as payload(passengers, wood, baggage, kids, dogs, etc...) This goes for just about every truck, not just the Titan.

If your towing 7000 lbs, you should be alright if you have the Tow Package.
Make sure you break in the rear end gears according to the owners manual

I dont want anyone thinkin I called the dealership crooked. I honestly, after working with this kid, that I think it was a simple mistake of what he thought it would tow.

I just found out today.........................I GET A NEW TRUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant wait, I am getting the color I really wanted, getting the Big Tow, getting the Popular Pkg, Utility bed, the whole deal. This is great to me as my other truck was pretty plain jane and now, I feel, as if I am walking away with a much better deal.

I am just pumped that the only thing I will walk away with having to buy is a trailer brake. On top of that, I just found out I have a co-worker who bought a new trailer brake and now doesnt need it, I am going to get it for a smokin deal.. I am getting the Tekonsha P3 for next to nothing and it is brand new, never used.

I'm glad it all worked out and it's nice to hear about a dealer doing the right thing. Congrats!

I too have been impressed with the way the truck tows...things. I've had my 04 since Nov 04 and i've towed some interesting items behind it. From my former BMW 740 iL with a dead alternator, about 4400 lbs in my 16 foot flat bed car carrier to a 7000 lb skid steer on that same car carrier to adding 2 foot tall wooden side rails so I could load 8 cubic yards of premium bulk mulch, 4 times in one day it towed it all.

Yep, I was WAY over the GCWR and I knew it but the truck handled it fine. The engine really enjoys winding up. I did use the tow mode just to have it hold the gear it was in longer. As for the transmission selector it goes into D and I leave it there, always. The only thing that concerned me was fuel consumption. I believe it was somewhere near 8 MPG when I towed the skid steer :)

My biggest concern when towing is ensuring I have the correct amount of weight AHEAD of the trailer's axle. Generally 60% should be over the front and 40% over the rear. I've never ever had an issue with a trailer whipping due to it. Granted, big TT's require weight distributing hitches but thats a different story. I could see using one with a 10,000 lb + TT.
