First 3 things I need for new Titan to increase HP and Gas Mileage?

I am brand new to the world of Titans (or any V8 truck for that matter) and I have to say I am, for the first time ever, truly proud of my vehicle! I feel like an F-ing man!!!

I am looking for the first 3 things I should do to it to not only increase horsepower but also hopefully help with fuel economy as well?

I do currently have a K&N air filter but it's not a cold air intake, and also a Flowmaster 40 series exhaust.

Cold air intake (AEM, Injen, Banks, etc.), a free flowing exhaust (cat-back, or muffler swap) and a handheld programmer (Superchips, Bullydog, HyperTech). That would be a good start. :cheers:

Also, what year is your Titan?

I owned a V6, 2 door, 2 seat, 2 wheel drive F150 and simply made this switch due to a new addition to our family. In other words all I needed was a back seat but decided to grab a back seat along with a 5.6 V8, 4 wheel drive, automatic, cruise control, tow package, 18" wheels, flowmaster exhaust, beast of an automobile.

My version of a mini van!

I have the S&B with 4" ram air mod and it has been working great . I only run about 5 degrees above ambient temp with this setup.

What Juday said..... Also forget about fuel economy. The cost of the "basic three" mods would never pay for itself MPG unless you put wings on the T and fly to the moon and back. If you are worried about gas you are in the wrong vehicle but if you want to smoke the pants off most people that pull up to the light enjoy!

Thanks for the reality check on mpg :crying: Kidding, I knew it wasn't going to be an economic vehicle but wondered if there were mods that helped increase mpg.

The mod bug is like a snowball. The best 3 for you would be exactly what juday said. Basically all the CAIs are the same, with little differences here and there. The exhaust, it depends on the sound you're going for. The tuner, the two have there differences, but since you are a 06, the bully dog would be your best bet.

a handheld programmer if you just plan on staying with intake and exhaust.. get uprev tuning if you plan to later add headers/cams.. also definatly get the detroit LSD it's a ton of fun having posi whjen you floor it going around a corner hehe

welcome to the Titan worldd.. now i would do LONG TUBE headers re do ur pipe all da way 2.5 with a 2in 2out magnaflow after the muffler do 3 inch . and a nice intake like volant or s&b or the relentless rmp and uprev ur truck will wake up 3times more than what it is righ now ;p

Welcome to Titan Talk!

First mod i suggest getting is the Detroit Tru Trac LSD.

You have numerous Cold air intakes to choose from as well as different exhaust variations. I'm sure someone on this board has a video/setup that you will like or choose to branch off from.
-Long tube headers made by Stillen, Doug Thorley, those are both great places to start.
-JimWolfeTechnology makes Camshafts for the titan, such as the JWT S7/S2 cam package.

Those are just some of the modifications you can go with. There is also TONS of information on this board that if you have a question and start a thread and its not answered the way you want..try a quick search and I'm sure you will find the answer you need.

Some of the top performance mods, with great seat of the pants feel/results, have been the Transgo Shift kit, and Detroit Tru Trac Limited slip differential.. The transmission in the titan needs some ''modded'' attention if you plan on spending cash on go fast parts.

If I had to do it all over again with modding, the Tru Trac LSD would've been very first mod, its amazing how much better the titan feels and the added reassurance of NOT having a stupid open differential.

There are tons of suspension mods you can do, 2in,4in,6in,8in lifts, even lowering kits if you plan on going with 22s or 24s. Options are endless as long as your wallet is willing! lol.

Great info on her guys....

Actually i started with a '93 V6 Dakota, then a '02 Tundra, then a '06 Ridgeline and now I have a '04 Titan.... The tundra was nice, loved it. The RL was great, lots of bells and wistles. The Titan is awesome!!!! Now I got my man card back!!!!!

I wanted to know if there are specific mods I can do with the 04???? Right now it stock but i have a close relationship with the guys at Dastek (South Africa) the makers of Unichip and especially with Nissans and the Infinity engins seen some remarkable gains but this will cost me $500 - $700. What would be nice easy cheap mods that i can start with?

I am about to move my sound system out of the Ridgeline into the Titan...

Kenwood DNX 9980HD
Rockford 600.5A amp
Rockford 6.5 Mids
Pioneer 10" shallow sub
Kenwood CMOS 300 Backup camera

So that will keep me occupied while we figure out what mods to get the 305 HP to the current 317HP.... LOL

ha thats a fact. i made a list the other day of everthing i have done and some of what i want to do with my truck and it was over 8 grand. thats half what i paid for the truck.

I have a lot of mods on my Titan so it's hard to tell which ones are giving me the most MPG gain. If I drive 65 MPH in the summer I can get 22.4 MPG. In no particular order here are the top 5 things I think help:

1. AMSoil 0w-30 synthetic oil in the engine
2. AMSoil in the differentials and transfer case. I also have AMSoil in the transmission but I was getting 22.4 MPG before I switched to that.
3. Topper/Cap - you'll find lots of information that says a topper doesn't help, I say it does.
4. OEM tires and wheels - keep the weight down. LT tires (Toyo Open Country, OEM size) are really heavy and drastically affect my MPG.
5. 85 octane fuel - Conoco or Shell, both have done well for me

Great thats what I thought to but I have questions regarding the cats. I have only had my truck for 4 days now so I am not sure what the cat situation is under the truck but removing the cats, does that give you any CEL's or error codes and will the truck still pass emmisions also are there any sensors in the rear cats and does the 2004 even have rear cats????

Sorry lots of questions but I'm still a noob!!!

I am getting my flowmaster 50 series next week and I am looking at a volant CAI. Which would you guys recommend???
