First 3 things I need for new Titan to increase HP and Gas Mileage?

I am brand new to the world of Titans (or any V8 truck for that matter) and I have to say I am, for the first time ever, truly proud of my vehicle! I feel like an F-ing man!!!

I am looking for the first 3 things I should do to it to not only increase horsepower but also hopefully help with fuel economy as well?

I do currently have a K&N air filter but it's not a cold air intake, and also a Flowmaster 40 series exhaust.

I am getting my flowmaster 50 series next week and I am looking at a volant CAI. Which would you guys recommend???
I've had the 50 and it sounded pretty good. I wanted louder so I had it swapped for a 40 and ran that for a while. The flow master drone got old. I switched that out for a Dynomax Bullet a while back and I really like it. Very loud and aggressive but no crazy drone on the freeway.

I had an AFE intake (that kept throwing codes) and a Volant intake. I liked the Volant a lot, but ended up selling it to pay down some debt, and I replaced it by modifying the stock air box (DIY airbox mod) and throwing in a K&N filter. I can barely tell the difference between the K&N and the Volant. K&N filter was $50 + free DIY mod. Volant was over $300.

Nothing I've done - exhaust, intake, tuner, tonneau....nothing has made a noticeable difference in my mileage. I might have gained 1 mpg at the very most, between everything I've done combined. I did lose about 1 mpg w/6" lift and 35" tires, so it evens out I guess. With mixed driving, I still get about 13mpg.
Great thats what I thought to but I have questions regarding the cats. I have only had my truck for 4 days now so I am not sure what the cat situation is under the truck but removing the cats, does that give you any CEL's or error codes and will the truck still pass emmisions also are there any sensors in the rear cats and does the 2004 even have rear cats????
2004 4x4 has rear cats, 4x2 doesn't. Elimination of the cats will - according to an expert here in Colorado that I talked to - cause you to fail emissions. I don't understand how that would be the case if a 4x2 with 2 cats can pass emissions. I'm still scratching my head on that one.

Instead of gutting the rear cats, consider replacing them with high performance cats like you can get from Berk Technologies. I noticed a difference when I did that.

I have a lot of mods on my Titan so it's hard to tell which ones are giving me the most MPG gain. If I drive 65 MPH in the summer I can get 22.4 MPG. In no particular order here are the top 5 things I think help:

1. AMSoil 0w-30 synthetic oil in the engine
2. AMSoil in the differentials and transfer case. I also have AMSoil in the transmission but I was getting 22.4 MPG before I switched to that.
3. Topper/Cap - you'll find lots of information that says a topper doesn't help, I say it does.
4. OEM tires and wheels - keep the weight down. LT tires (Toyo Open Country, OEM size) are really heavy and drastically affect my MPG.
5. 85 octane fuel - Conoco or Shell, both have done well for me
aggree on the wheels. the wider i got, the worst my mpg got. but i love having 12" wide tires. lol. not to mention all of the other mods i did. Superchips tuner did help alittle on gas, alot on HP.

Thanks for the reminder. I should have put a 6th item on my list:

6. Uprev tuned - I get better gas mileage (especially around town) in my performance map versus the stock map.
I lost on average about 2mpg city/highway when I took of my stock 18s and put on the KMC Rockstar 20x10 on all 4, with cooper 305/50/20s, those sumbiotches are heavy!

My fuel mileage stays around 12.5mpg city and 15-16 on hwy. Its horrible mpg, but anyone who buys a truck should already have the mindset that ''boxes'' aren't fuel efficient.

i'd like to know what Toomnymods turbo titan gets on the highway, mpg wise. That turbo should help with fuel efficiency if you keep your foot out of it.
If you gut the rear cats you will not throw codes because there are no O2 sensors after them. Visually, it looks stock so you're good to go there. As for FM 40's or 50's, they are not the best for performance, but if you're in it for sound and not speed then pick whatever exhaust setup you like best.

IMO, if you follow my suggestions, your performance will skyrocket compared to where you are right now.

Ok Just to not confuse me any further...LOL (I am South African) we ger confused quick...

I have in mind the following and this plan will prob be complete withing a week or 2.

1) Volant CAI
2) FM 50 series Muffler
3) Gut Rear cats

What would you recommend for performance other than what i have listed here?
If you want better mpg's buy a Honda like I did for a daily driver...lol

That is a good start.

Then you can get a programmer.

Here I fixed your list^^^ If you want performance than stay away from baffled muffler like flowmasters. Borla/maganaflow/Dynomax Bullet etc are all flow through and will net you the best performance. Of course Im biased toward Borla since thats what I have on my Titan and Mustang. Oh yeah and a Bully Dog Triple GT tuner would make your truck feel like a new truck by getting rid of the WOT restriction and different throttle sensitivity options.
Like I said earlier, and what jpac811 said above, dump the flow master idea if you want performance. It's kinda redundant to gut the rear cats and then clog it all up with a baffled FM muffler.

Sorry but that was the one thing that made my day today! hahahaha

Welcome to TitanTalk! And none of these guys are lying, the mod bug will bite and never let go!:teethmast

Any specific Borla Muffler you would recommend??? Oh and the BD GT tuners there seem to be a few different ones. Exactly what GT tuner? They range from $200 - $500
Ok I did some research and I think I might go with this muffler... Borla 40670 - Borla Performance Turbo XL Mufflers - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Its a 3" single in and a dual 2.25 out. Please let me know what you think I might call meineke soon to change my order.

The part number is 40410. Bully Dog Triple Dog GT tuner.

I think you have your in/ out dimensions backwards. You want the smaller diameter piping going into the muffler from your header side and bigger diameter going to the tail pipe or dump.

I just saw that your truck is an 04. the Bully Dog website doesnt have anything listed for 04s so before you go buying one, call them and ask if it will wor for you or do some more research here around the forum. Im sure it has been answered but I cant remember what the answer is. Also you might want to swap out your Y pipe to a flow master Y pipe. That will give your truck a bit more pull and isnt expensive. Take a look up under your truck and plan out how you want your exhaust to be set up along with the recommendations from this site. Search around and you will find tons of different exhaust combinations that people have tested and see if you like one.

I checked the website again and it listed this muffler as a single 3" in and a dual 2.25" out. thats tecknically larger than the in right?

All these mods are sooo overwhelming....

My truck is going in to Meineke tomorrow to have a rear wheel bering seal replaced and the muffler and exhaust mods will be done then. So I am running out of time a little and thought it would be easier to just ask streight out "what to do"

I have gotton a ton of good info already and just hope the Borla muffler (1x3" inlet and 2x2.25" outlet) and going from a single out to a dual out will hinder performance though.

I also orgered the Volant CAI and should be here Friday or early next week.
So what I have in mind now and what I have ordered parts for is as follows.

I ordered a Flowmaster "Y" pipe thats a 2.25 Primary and 3" final I'll thake the 3" pipe to the muffler which is a Borla single 3" in and dual 2.25" out and I will have 2x2.25" tail piles exit behind the wheel. Then I should be fitting my Volant CAI next week.

Does that sound like I will gain a little bit of power or does it sound like a low end torque killer?
I think I just completely highjacked this thread. I appologize....
