First 3 things I need for new Titan to increase HP and Gas Mileage?

I am brand new to the world of Titans (or any V8 truck for that matter) and I have to say I am, for the first time ever, truly proud of my vehicle! I feel like an F-ing man!!!

I am looking for the first 3 things I should do to it to not only increase horsepower but also hopefully help with fuel economy as well?

I do currently have a K&N air filter but it's not a cold air intake, and also a Flowmaster 40 series exhaust.

hmm not sure where you are with your exhaust set up...but seems like your making hard on yourself.....2.25 is started at the "Y" then goes into your choice of what you want coming from that 2.25-2.50-3.00 etc most people go with 2.25-3.00 Y into 3 inch pipe into the muffler of your choice "stay away from flowmaster" other then looks im not sure why you want a single in dual out muffler...single in single out imo perorm better imo...pm me if you need any help

OPk i will start at the secondary cats. From the rear cats I'm planing on going with 2.25" pipe into the 2.25" Y collector I got today then the Y collector out is a 3" diameter. 3" pipe all the way to the borla muffler which is a 3" single in and a dual 2.5" out. Does that makes sence?

Would you guys happen to know what this will do for performance and low end torque? And how will it sound?

Im pretty sure that you are going to create a bottle neck effect which wont be too good.
You are going from 2.25in[from cats to Y] to 3in[Y to muffler] to 2.5in[muffler to tailpipes]

Usually we all stay away from 3in pipe since back pressure is lost and the low end torque will be gone. So with the set up you described above, you are speeding up the exhaust through the 3 in pipe but slow it back down once it hits the 2.5 muffler exit and tail pipes. I dont even know how its going to feel since your set up is kind of backwards. What you should have done was go from 2.25 to 2.5 or just kept the 2.25 until you hit the muffler. Than after the muffler you could go to 3. It will sound great since you are using a borla muffler but as for performance, who knows. Let us know how it feels lol

Ah Ok I see what you mean. I looked to see if I could reorder the Y collector but they only have 2"-2.5" or 2.25-3" so What I'll do is just have the shop modify the Y I have to run into a 2.5" right after the collector into the muffler.

I thought the dual 2.5" outs on the muffler sufficed as a 5" out??? No?

So listining to what you guys have to say, at the end of the day this is what it should look like.

2.25" out of cats into Y
3" Y out immediatly into a 2.5" straight to the muffler (I will have them cut the 3" Y shorter to have the 2.5" start sooner)
2.5" into the 3" muffler with the 2 x 2.5" tailpipes out.

I really do like the duals better than the single out. Should I change the muffler from a single 2.5"in and s single 3" out should I just get this one??

Nobody should confuse me with an expert on exhaust setups, but your 3" Y (exit side) into 2.5" straight sounds a bit strange to me. Why would you step down the diameter? For what it's worth, the '07+ OEM exhaust is 2.25" dual to the muffler and then 3" out from the muffler. I don't know if that gives you any guidance or not. Conventional wisdom for '07+ is that the biggest bang for the buck is to simply replace the OEM muffler and keep the existing tubing.

This is by far the most complicated thread EVER...

Dude... Seriously... I'm not been sure what's going on anymore...

What you should really do is start off with 3.50" cats that go to a "U" pipe that's 3.25" and then blend that into a 90 deg "L" bend that will help with the dual exhaust flow, and then after the dump install some magna flows for ZERO CIS...

Lol, just go with duals. and use a X- Pipe as well.

I still have factory size B-pipe diameter piping coming right off the headers for like a foot on each bank, just so I could keep the rear 02 senors.... about six inches after those rear 02s its all welded with tru dual setup, listed in my signature, which is all 2.5in piping and 3in dumps(as far as pipe size goes)

And yes go with Borla ProXS mufflers!

,,,and maybe some resonators if you plan on getting headers and/or removing cats.


I can't feel a loss in low end lol:teeth: If backpressure is what we need then my exhaust setup should provide just a lil lol.

No no no, you got the U-pipe and L-Bend pipe sizes/degrees all wrong! They are supposed to 180deg backazzwards into a 5in A-Pipe, which is a Y-pipe with a built in H-style crossover at the Y's split lol.

Actually an A-Pipe kinda makes sense... lol:bangit:



You guys remember SMITHYS Mufflers, now owned by Patriot or whoever. Now those are some glasspacks! (offtopic a lil I know):teeth:

Here is an exhaust that I put together for my old Titan which is owned by a buddy now. Stock B pipes to 2.5in magnaflow X pipe to 2 2.5in Bullets with tips. Shipwreh should do this exact setup just with dual Borlas:eyebrow: Now that would sound nice.

that first video of Chuck tuckers shows the underside of the exhaust, thats the same x-pipe i'm using. My Titan sounded like that for a few minutes at the exhaust shop one day when I was getting work done.

Except at that point I had, Long tube headers, no cats. 2.5in piping to magnaflow magnapacks, sounded mean as hell... Then I added Flowmaster 40s after the magnapacks, now it sounds like teh sex.

So basically I have 4x straight thru resonators and 2x two chambered mufflers lol. For a total of 6 mufflers if you wanna be technical lol.


Mine goes... Headers, X-Pipe, Magnapacks (resonators), Flowmaster 40s(chambered), Apexi Resonators, turn downs...

It looks crazy under my T.

haha here is the picture!



Cool thing is, the maganpacks were $50 and Flowmaters $100 and Apexi's were free. Minus the headers, I only have about $350-$400 invested that includes labor.

That does look crazy under there. Why not change out to some Borla Mufflers since the flows takes a teensy bit of performance away lol

First off guys. Sorry for all the confusion and thank you so much for all your feedback and good humor. I finalyy got my truck back Saturday morning. i tas in the shop to replace the rear diffirential wheel seals (or what ever you call them, the seals that keeps the diff oil from running out the side of the shaft) the brake shoes replaced as well as the pads and rotors.

So it was during this time that I wanted to do the exhaust mods too and here is what I ended up buying.

1) Flowmaster 2 x 2.25" to 3" Y collector
2) Borla Turbo XL single in dual out
3) Volant CAI

I got the Y col and the exhaust work done and OMG it sounded awesome. It was still pretty quiet though. Apart from sounding more burly I dont think it was any louder than the stock one but it was "throaghtier"

I got my truck from Meineke, drove it home and was generally pleased! I got right to work installing the CAI, I lost the instructions and it took me about 30 minutes to install and that included cleaning the throttle body.

Now let me tell you.... OMG!!!! That CAI multiplied the exhaust noise probably tripple fold and it sounds awesome!!!!

Before I did these mods I could get the rear wheels to break loose off the line by just mashing the throttle and I kinda liked it. (I have GoodYear Wrangler Pro Grade Silent Armor tires on the truck that is brand new) Now that the mods are done I cannot get the wheels to break loose at all so i am pretty sure I lost a little low end torque but I also think I gained a lot more ar higher RPM's. Th noise is really beautiful and not too loud at all. When I hit about 2600RPM's it really opens up and almost feels like a little jump in power (kinda like VVT engaging in the 2005 XRS Corolla) 2600 RPM to 3000 RPM's is a little loud buy it still makes my pants suddenly feel smaller.... (-:

The ECU must have made some adjustments already for it feels smoother throught the RPM range and a tad stronger of the line.

I wil lneed to do something else with these videos they are too large to attach. let me see if I can post them to youtube and post links.

Thanks for the vids man. Im glad you are happy with the set up. Now get yourself a programer or UpRev and you will def be able to spin your tires with ease.

What does the UpRev do and which one is better (Cipher or Osiris) How does these things work and what do thet change. Fuel\air, or timing?

Here is their website: UpRev - Engine Management

UpRev custom tunes to optimize the performance of your truck. It changes what you stated above and other things to make it run at its max. Cipher more or less a way to monitor all the the truck parameters. Osiris is what they use to tune the truck. If you buy Osiris, Cipher comes with it. If you buy Cipher, Osiris DOES NOT come with it but you can upgrade later on. Everything should be answered on thier site but if not than ask away.
