I am so da** pi$$ed at myself.

I just had to back up into that spot next to the concrete pillar. I should know better than that -- I guess not. Cr4p!

Has anyone else mutilated their baby like this? If so, have you done anything to "correct" it (besides shooting the driver, thank you) :) ?

The parts dept says its ~$160 for the new mirror housing, exluding labor of course. Yikes!

Mine was from headlight to taillite

I got a scratch from head lite to tail light when i was out on my last hunting trip. My dealer wanted $2200 to fix it. I saved my money and spent $100 to get it buffed out. You can still see it a little bit in the right light but it sucks.

look on the bright side.....it's a plastic scratch rather than a paint scratch

that's not to bad but it still sucks :crying:

I was trying to wash the love bugs off the front bumper the other day and got too close with high pressure wash wand. Fyi . The paint on the plastic washes off better than the bugs.

I'd take a razor blade and cut off any plastic sticking up around
the edges of the gouges. You could then fill them with some sort
of bondo like material, and paint over. Worth a try before replacing
the housing.

I wonder if that vinyl repair stuff that you spread on and heat with
an iron would work?

Titan4x4Aggie - Curious as to how much your paint work estimate is for your LF bumper cover. Yesterday, a neighborhood kid ran his bike straight into my parked truck. He ripped a gash in the bumper cover, so it will need to be replaced. Luckily no sheet metal or headlight damage. I see that the part lists for $48, but I'm sure the paintwork will be the kicker.

On the bright side, at least I actually made the 1st payment before someone else started tearing it up...

dont feel so bad. i ran into a pole in the parking lot at work...
Looked to me like you had enough bugs on there to protect it or at least slide of any pole.

you may want to try this before you replace to housing, i did it on a car i had a long time ago.
similar scratch, i bought some sand paper with a grit that was close to the texture of the plastic, i taped it on the affected area of plastic then i used the medium heat setting on an iron to soften the plastic and imprint the grit into the plastic. this worked well, however times and materials have changed the plastic may be resistant to the heat. maybe this will be a cheap or temporary fix that you can try if you are planning to replace the housing anyway.

That's a freak'n great idea. The manual states that the mirror housing is made of Polyamide (Nylon) + Glass Fiber (page BL-193) with a heat resistance of 284 F. So a heat gun should be enough to re-mold it after sanding it smooth.

If you don't want to try that and don't want to spend a fortune at the dealer, try this link:

I don't think they are sponsors, but the prices are good and the online parts break-down rocks. I've ordered from them before and spoke with them on the phone. Very knowledgeable and eager to help out.

Good luck

Man thats nothing. That just gives your truck character. There are plenty of people on here who have ahd it worse. Myself included. $650 to fix my boo boo. For 650 I can live with it.
