Flowmaster questions

Today I dropped my truck off and had exhaust put on. I ordered Flow 50 series HD. The part they shop recieved and installed was Flow 50 series SUV. It is quiet, not really much different than stock. It pisses me off. Anyway, how much louder is the hd over the suv? I know the graph on the flow site shows a large difference, but I am not sure how much difference there will actually be. I am taking it back tomorrow for them to order the right parts.

not sure about the 50 series, but the 40 series is much louder than stock. has a low growl at low rpms, but it roars when you punch it.

but hope they get this straightened out for ya...

Now you got to make another trip and use YOUR time !!!!!

Which one do you have?

The shop is pretty good and I know he ordered the right thing cuz I was standing there when he placed it, they just didnt make sure the right part came in before they installed. Hopefully it wont come to having to make a scene.

It's in my sig. above post ^^^^^^^^

I had them cut right after the "Y" and put 3" pipe all the way to Muffler (single in , dual out) and kept it all 3" to the tips....
I have the 70 series and was dissappointed at first as well. You need to give it 700-800 miles though...I added a CAI and then after waiting those miles and had it "break in" it has a very nice rumble now and roars at WOT.

How long have you had it...............I can't say for sure
about your set up, but the single in/out 50's get noticeably
louder after a few heat-up/cool-down cycles.
I have the Big Block 50.
I just had it installed today, so it may get a little louder, but still not what I want. And right not it is dual in/single out.

As for the 700-800 miles, I dont think I will get to put that many miles on it before I store it, so I want it right beforehand.

IF it is going to get louder you shoud be able to tell a difference
in only three or four heat-up/cool-down cycles. The
single in/out 50's & 70's I have had did it, but the single in/dual out
didn't change much.............so I'm not sure what your setup
would do.
Flowmaster or any other kind of "baffled" muffler should'nt get
any louder over time since theres no internal packing to "break in" or blow out.
Btw I swapped my JBA cat back muffler with a flowmaster 70,and imo it gives off a much better, cleaner sound.

I have had five Flowmaster mufflers (50 & 70)& they all got noticeably
louder within two or three days. IMO, after a couple of weeks
any change in the sound is small. It has been my experience that
the difference is most noticeable on the quieter Flowmasters....
single in/out 50 & 70. I had a single in/dual out & the difference
was less noticeable probably because it was louder from the start.
A few years ago the Flowmaster
web site had a forum & that issue was discussed. It was believed to
be due to the fact that after a few heat-up/cool-down cycles
the steel gets much harder & the sound changes. I can
guarantee you that after stainless is in an exhaust system
for a couple of weeks, it becomes much harder..........steel
probably does the same.

I talked to the shop today, and called flowmaster. They do not make a dual in single out muffler in the 50 series HD, so I am SOL. I cant afford to have a custom exhaust made (still paying for projects on the mustang). So the owner of the shop said he ordered a magnaflow (not sure which one) and he is gonna swap them out, no charge. He said he prefers them over the Flow's. I have always bought flows, so hopefully I will be happy. He told me not to worry though, so we will see.

You will be pleasantly surprised with the Magnaflow!!
The magnaflows are on, and still they are to quiet for what I expected. Next time I am gonna get what I want and the mrs will just have to deal with it. So much for trying to make someone else happy.
So which was queiter - the magnaflow or the flowmaster?
The flow's were quieter, but it was because of the model they used.
I just put on a 40 and my first thought was this is not as loud as I thought it would be, I am so glad I did not go with a 50.
leave the magnaflow on. it will last longer than the baffled f/m design, and probably produce better numbers anyway
I've got the FM40 series with an AEM Brute force CAI...still setting off car alarms!!
