Fluttering noise under acceleration? Update!!

Hi all,
2011 SV CC with 125,000 KM on the clock. No ticking sounds from the motor while cold, or while parked while revving the motor. I notice a " fluttering " noise when I stomp on the gas that keeps pace with the engine revs. Is this normal?

Is the fan rubbing on the shroud?

It's either exhaust manifolds or a hole in the muffler.

Times 2. As soon as spring has sprung my plan is to see if the b-pipe has somehow worked loose from the manifold. I've found a similar diagnosis although not a Titan online. I'll report back if I found anything.

Thanks for the replies guys. The funny thing is that the noise only occurs when I am in motion under acceleration. When I am parked ( even under a cold start) there is no ticking noise whatsoever, even if I depress the gas pedal. Also, no codes?

Ticking only in motion is likely to be a tire or brake issue. Check all your tires for screws and rocks, and check your brakes for any sticking calipers or failing e-brake shoes.

I second this. If it was an exhaust leak or manifold issue you'd hear it all the time. If it's only when moving then it's something that's moving only when moving.

Have you had this since day 1 or started up recently or after you changed something out?

I had a bad U-Joint that sounded like something other than the U-joint. Only made the noise under load and crawling under the truck I couldn't see or feel any indication that the U-joint was bad. I know you say it changes with engine revs, but double check that its engine revs and not speed. Just a thought.... I have many, but most are weird.......

I read once on the forum about the 5.6 having a "CIS" ( card in spokes) sound under hard acceleration. Could that be what I'm hearing? I have a buddy with an Armada that has cracked manifolds, and the ticking from his motor is especially loud, especially under initial startup. Mine sounds nothing like his....

It's possible, just depends on how faint what you're hearing is. If you're full stock exhaust I would think you'd hear more noise from the engine bay than the tail pipe though.

I can vouch for what they/we are hearing. It's 100% coming from the engine bay, only during acceleration, nothing to do with speed, and only when in gear. The pitch changes with your foot, not the speed. At idle, or in park and revving it sounds 100% normal. As an aside I'm running a Magnaflow cat back single outlet. I've tapes up the joints and they are all solid and not the issue. Once I can get under her when it warms and dries up I want to see if there is something loose. It does sometimes go way and the truck sounds normal which is what leads me to believe something up front is loose.

I still think it's manifolds. They aren't always loud at first.

Just do like I did. Go full Cajun and pray for the best. Either the sound went away or now my truck is too loud to hear it. Regardless, it runs like a spotted ape!! ;)

That is exactly how I could describe my 2011 pro4x when the manifolds went. There was no tick at all, just as you described tho, good deal man.
