I was at my dealership the other day getting my truck inspected. I hate waiting areas/rooms so I kill time by walking the lot, they sell high end Mercedes as well so its always cool to see what a $110k vehicle looks like up close. I,m lookin at the 08.5 Titans when I see this black thing underneath the drivers side rear bumper. I go back to take a look and it kinda flips/swings down as what appears to be a step. Its made just like the side of the upper bumper, I mean that it looks like they hacked off about 16 inches of the drivers side bumper and mounted on the swing arm below.

Anyway I asked parts if it would fit my 07 and he looked up info and guessed that it would since in didnt specifically say it wouldnt. So anyone with any knowledge would be great. I would like to know if it will fit, how hard to install, is it avaliable other than from dealer (I was told it retailed @ dealer for $199 + Tax), and since the truck I saw it on was backed right up against a hill can you use it with the tailgate down?

I think it is a great idea but Nissans design is not well thought out. I wish I could have gotten a better look at it but it seems to be a kinda "oh s!it look at what ford did on there superduty we better make something quick to compete" kinda design. Well hopefully someone has some insight, if it has already been posted I apologize now but I couldnt find anything. Thanks in advance.

you know I'd be curious about this one myself, I've been looking at the steps that plug into the trailer hitch but what a pain in the A** when you are getting ready to tow.... anybody with pics of this is action, pls post them :) I ran a quick gooley search and came up with nada :crying:

I know it's a $225 option on all 2008.5 models but I've never seen one nor do I have any idea what it looks like other than what you've described. You'd have to look and see how it's attatched. It's probably not attatched to the bumper itself. Seeing as it's an option and not in a package, I don't see why it couldn't be added.

This boggles my mind that I am one of if not the 1st to see it in person. I will have to go take a pic at my local dealer and post for all to see if the truck is still there. They had the truck up against a hill so I couldnt see how it worked with the gate down or when possibly towing.

Now I'll have to do is figure out how to post the pic, I'm not good with stuff like that so give me a quick lesson and I will post this weekend for all to see.

I still think it was a kinda quick throw on idea but it sure would be nice to get up into the bed without throwing a knee on the tailgate first.

Hey guys -

They are already selling on ebay, I found this pic there.

Swung by my local dealership to check one out. They attach to the frame under the hitch, installation looked like a piece of cake.

Played around with it a little bit. After it folds out from the rear bumper, you can use it either with the tail gate up or down. Once you find the sweet spot - super easy to open and close.

I also checked out Ford's new tailgate and bed side step at the auto show

Side step action wasn't as nice. You have to push a tiny button to release, and push really hard to lock it back into position.

Ford's Bed step I also didn't like so much. You can only use with the gate down, and have to have your hands free to open it. Nissan's you just push with your foot. Plus - no silly handle on the tailgate :bouncy:

they're actually pretty nice cuz they dont arent electric.
About a year ago when I went to AMP Research to have my power steps installed, one of the techs there showed me the prototype of that step.
He said they were going to have one for the Titan in the near future. I would assume that they are now available.

I don't like that it can be seen when folded up.

neither do I, it looks unbalanced from the rear.

3 of us stopped at the dealer a couple weeks ago after the Red Alert luncheon, and got to see the step. It appears to be a AMP Product. Maybe they can make a Right side step (Exhaust would be in teh way poosibly) to have a balanced look. Price of 225, maybe some can get a 20% Good Buddy discount and only pay about 180. I'll be looking into this, especially now that I read it bolts onto the frame. It really swung in place and back very easily, and securely. Pretty impressive! Glad the OP brought this up... :)

When you go onto the nissanusa.com site and build a new Titan (I used the LE) there is an option to add the rear bumper step assist. The price on their site is 225 and by clicking the "?" you can see their picture. They state no drilling.

Hope this helps.

I have it on my truck. It really can be useful, but I don't know if I would go out and spend $225 on it though. I have it because it was a dealer installed option and was already on the truck. It really comes in handy while using the truck for tailgating during the football season.

Seems they could do better. build it into the bumper on both sides, make a notch for it to fit up into. good idea though, AMP (Bestop) has had them out for a while now.
