For those of us without the offroad package...

and hate taking the skid plate off each and every time they change the oil, has anyone made their own trap door in the OEM plate? On mine, there is a recess and an outline that looks like it lines up with the oil filter. I swore I saw pictures of someones truck who did this. Taking the plate on and off is a PITA an I'd rather not shell out $170 for an offroad plate. If anyone has done this, pics and a brief explanation would be awesome.:hat:

Titanblue did it. Let me see if I can find his write-up.....
Thanks! How did you come up with that? I tried searching for it, but couldn't even come close to finding it. You've got some serious search skills! LOL!
I remembered it was embedded inside an oil change thread. I also know TB, so I remembered he had done it.

Basically I just spend way too much time on here reading about this truck! An addiction, you might say.... :D
I took mine into the local weld shop. I told them to cut out the raised area and I marked it with a white marker so there would be not confusion. They charged me the minimum charge of $15 plus tax. It worked perfectly. I was going to make a door for it, but I decided not to. Yeah, there was a risk that if I had driven into a stump at that location, it could have taken out the oil filter. But that's a pretty small risk.
Am I the only one that enjoys having to take that thing off and on??? LMAO.
The local lube joints threatened me with a an additional charge for all Titan owners for removing that plate. I laughed and drove on out.
One of the dealers i went to forgot to put the plate back on my truck after an oil change, so i dont have to deal with it at all!! (if i only knew which dealer it was i would try to get it back!)

I would say lucky you......but i think i would rather have mine on, some pretty important stuff left in the open there. I dont think there is anyone who has been under their titan and said "damn couldnt anyone have thought about this better" while changing their oil. I have gotten pretty good at it now. I can do it pretty quick. Now the first couple of times it was a bit cumbersome.
Sounds like a good idea. Think ill do the "Skid Plate Mod" to my beast.... LOL

Yeah, it works fine, and I have fat hands. Sand the edges of the cut metal, to make sure you don't slice your wrists. I even put some black paint on the edges.

can't the filter be removed from the side through the wheel well?

I doubt it, have you seen the oil filter we have? its right dead center below the engine unlike some other cars that have it to the side.
