Ok everyone I was just on the NHSTA website and did a search on reported Door Latch Problems. I was amazed to find out that on the 2004 there were only 3 reports and only 5 for the 2005. I have read hundreds of posts on titantalk about these issues and was amazed at the low numbers that have complained to the NHSTA, Nissan will never issue a recall on this unless they are forced to, please take the time to help out your fellow early Titan owners who may be out of the 36k warranty such as myself. It only takes 5 minutes to file a complaint on the website and could make a huge diffrence in getting an investigation started.

Thanks to everyone who particpates on the forum, it is the best information I have found anywhere on the Titan. Please do you part to make sure the NHSTA puts pressure on Nissan to fix their known issues. Whether that be Brakes, Rear End, or Feezing Latches/Handles!!

Here is a link to the NHSTA site to file a complaint:

There is a TSB for the freezing door locks issue and I had mine repaired under warranty with no more problems.

Good luck with getting a recall. Checked the number of NHTSA complaints for the rear differentials lately? No recall on those that I know of.

This thread has been moved to the appropriate "Problems" forum

Good luck.

I realize there is a TSB on this issue but in my opinion it goes well beyond that. This is a saftey issue and a pain in the a$$ to boot. For those that are out of the warranty period and have these issues Nissan wants over $500 to fix it. That to me is ridiculous for something that might end up killing someone. driving without your door latched can not be very safe. I know a recall is probably a far stretch but it will never happen if we don't file complaints and just come here to b!tch about it.

I just bought a 05 titan with 23,000 miles on it last week! I live in northern Illinois, and we just had some pretty cold temps!! I was down to one back door opening to get in my truck!!! Climbing over seats and center consoles in something I just paid $24000 for, DID NOT make me to happy! :ugh:
I love this truck!! I really do!! Its the only truck I like, and want. But reading about all the brake issues, rear end issues, front dif issues, door handle issues is starting to scare the crap out of me!!!
I know all trucks and cars are all going to have issues but damn!!

Just take it in and tell them what happened, then tell them to pull up the TSB and you'll be set. I have an 05 KC that is garage kept, and so far, no frozen doors. I have 11 months left on my 36 month warranty, and I just might take it in for the frozen door TSB before I have a problem at a later date. The brake issue is an important item, they can pull up your vehicle record and see if that TSB was performed before you bought it. If it was done, you're ok, if not, tell them you have brake judder and get it done.

why would they issue a recall when not all of them have the problem? if yours has the problem, have it fixed. doesnt seem too complicated to me.

How exactly is it a safety issue? Any normal person can tell whether or not their door is closed before they even start the vehicle, let alone start going down the road.

What TSB number is it, and when did it come out, I have read all the TSB's for the Titan before and never recall anything about that one with freezing door handles or latches.

My front passenger door has been freezing. When I called to make the appointment to have my 5th new radio installed I mentioned it to the service dude and ask him to check and see if there were any TSB's for the freezing door handle (I knew there was one). When I took it in yesterday to have the radio installed I asked him if he had found the TSB for the door handles. He said that he had not been able to find anything on freezing door handles so I conventiently showed him the TSB that I had printed from http://www.nissanhelp.com/. Needless to say all the parts are on order to get my door handles fixed. I don't think there needs to be a recall for this since the TSB is there to fix the problem.

So if my they say my extended warrenty doesent cover this, what should I do? Does having a TSB out for this problem mean that it should be covered??

No, a TSB means nothing to having it taken care of.....thats why there needs to be a Recall issued. If you are outside your 3yrs/36k they you have to pay over $500 to get it fixed out of your own pocket. If your extended won't pick up the tab on it. The TSB just documents the problem and fix for the technician.

As to the person who said it isn't a safety issue, how do you figgure driving down the road holding your door closed with your hand is safe. If you can't close your doors then there is a safety issue plain and simple.

As to this I will say that I believe they do all have the problem, its just some of the vehicles are never subjected to cold enough weather for there to be a problem with a freeze. but when I bought this truck there was no warning on the window sticker that siad for use above 35 degrees anywhere. I looked!! Your right though, its not complicated............if you are under factory warranty.

Maybe they don't need to issue a recall but they should fix a known issue regardless....whether you are in warranty or not.

Just my 2 cents

Um, it's not a safety issue because it doesn't happen WHILE you're driving. The fact that someone was stupid enough to drive down the road holding the door closed isn't Nissan's problem, it's Darwin's. Nobody forced said person to drive with their vehicle's door broken. Really now, let's use some common sense. :bang:

That argument could be applied to any part that is broken and someone decides to ignore:

Flat tire
No brakes
Broken suspension
etc...

If the door doesn't latch when you get in then don't drive the truck. Safety issue... Eesh...

Ok,I can see your point and I agree with what you say, but that just means that I can not drive my truck from say December to March. Saftey issue or not this is a bunch of crap and needs to be fixed for free by Nissan.
Plus I don't think my boss is going to take the excuse "I cant close my door again" for the 20th day in a row, I really like this truck....except for this!! It is so frustrating having a vehicle that other than a stupid door handle or 4 works great. You can have the best vehicle in the world and if you can't get in to drive it is pretty much useless. Thats about where I am with the Titan, sad but true!
