My son in law replaced my front brake pads. He realized doing the 2nd wheel he used 2 inner pads for one side so he used 2 outer pads for the other side. will this be an issue?

I'd sure fix it. Why mess around with something like your brakes?

Yes, there are specific mounting points on each pad to keep them in place. If I remember correctly, one has little compression points that hold it to the piston.
