So the seal for the steering shaft is leaking on my 07 titan se 4x4. Going to remove the rack and either have it resealed/rebuilt or replaced. Depending on what I get into once its removed. It's not loose or anything like that, just the seal leaking so I may get lucky and its internals are ok.

I also have some slop on the driver side output flange on the front diff. Id like to fix this before it causes anymore issues than it may already have. I bought the truck in June and its obvious someone just drove it and didn't care. My main question is can I remove the front diff from the truck, find axle ends to bolt in place of the axles and be able to drive the truck until I get the front diff straightened out? I don't see a problem doing this as long as I have something bolted in the hub to simulate an axle.

Thoughts on my current situation. I've put a boat load of money into this truck since i bought it fixing dumb crap and won't need a front diff until winter anyway so I'm trying to be able to drive the truck yet buy some time to recoup some more money to spend on it.

Drop the front diff and driveshaft all together. Deal with rack with it out. You have to remove diff to get rack out anyway. I did mine at home. Not too hard.

I would just get a reman rack. Have it on hand. And swap it out. The labor is too much to want to play with doing it twice by skimping on the rack repair. If it's original for an 2007. You probably need a replacement.

I'm not sure if its original or not. The truck has 176,000 on it. Its going to the dealer soon for the fuel gauge recall so I can see if there is any service history on it while I'm there.

Is there any brand of reman rack to avoid?

I've read you can drive the truck without the front axles but you would not have the abs rings in there so when I do it I will knock the ends of the axles off and bolt the stubs back in the hub (sealing the open part to keep dirt/water out) until I figure out the front diff. It can't screw anything else up in the diff if its not in the truck anymore ha ha.
