Gas fill up question

Has anyone elee noticed that at fill up, the max sale seems to be $75. We have had our 08 CC long bed 4X2 for just over two weeks, and have gone for fuel twice. The first time the wife went to the gas station, and reported that she thought the $75 dollars filled it, but it didn't. I went last night to fill up (different station) and also stopped at $75. On a 37 gallon fule tank, and with gas at $2.95, I only got up to 3/4 of a tank. Anyways, are all the new pumps set up to stop at $75? Has anyone else experienced this, or could it just be my area (Danville, VA)?
Thanks guys!

I've seen some gas pump in CO stop at $65.
Has been discussed before...

Seems that some stations only authorize your credit card for $75

You are swiping your card in the machince, right??

Try just filling up and then paying, see if that changes it.
Most of the pumps here stop at 50.00 if you use the debit mode....
I run into this all the time. It really pisses me off.

We used to have full service stations in this country. They pumped your gas, checked your oil, and your tires and they did it all for $0.35 a gallon and you even got a free drinking glass for filling up.

Then we went to self serve. But at least we had a guy (who always had one of those machines on his belt for making change) standing near the pumps to take your money. Then got rid of the man and put a clerk in a booth; but at least the booth was located on the pump islands. Then they moved the clerk inside the store. Then they made you pay before pumping. Now if you wanted to fill up you had to stand in line, leave money with the clerk, pump your gas, go back inside and stand in line for your change. Then they started breaking the little tab off the nozzle so that you have to hold the handle the entire time or it won’t dispense gas. Finally they came up with an improvement by letting you pay at the pump and now they figured out how to piss me off by making you swipe your card twice to fill up and gas cost $3.00 a gallon.

I wonder what they can think of next?

When did the tanks go to 37 gallons? I thought they were all 28 gallons.
New on the 08's now..........

No. I use my debit card all the time and I can go until the tank is full. Most I've spent is $82.

Never heard of this $50 or $75 limit from gas stations.

Yup, 08 Longbeds have 37 gallon fuel tanks. My Range computer says (when the tank is full) that I have a range of around 600 miles, which is nice, but to fill the BAT (bigg A55 truck) isn't good on the wallet. I have figured, in the two weeks with a mixture of city and hwy miles, I'm getting around 15.5 mpg. So it's close.
I also have the 08 long bed.
When the pump stops at $75 just swipe the card again and pump til it's full.
37 gallans times $3.35 in So Ca = $123.95!!!
I was going to say the same thing... at least at Costco it stops at $99.00...but with the 37g tank it still means I have to swipe twice to fill it up. But it's okay...the extra wait is worth it. It's nice to be able to go 5-600 miles without stopping at a station :D
I also have the 08 crew cab 08 long bed. I fill up at the 1/2 way point.
sorry,

I also have the 08 crew cab long bed. I fill up at the 1/2 way point.
Its 65 bucks at most places down here, i cant even fill up my 28g sometimes.

I watch that show "HOW IT'S MADE" religiously. They had an episode just this week on how they make gas tanks. The one statement they made was interesting. They claim automotive gas tanks are made to only take up to 80% capacity. Makes perfect sense in our situation. In tank fuel pumps, baffles and enough room for vapors to expand and travel through the charcoal cannister system are all part of that 28 gallon tank we have....or the 37 gallon if you have the 08 LWB.
The biggest issue filling up (other than the $$$) is the time it takes to dump in 35+ gallons of fuel. Sometimes I think I could grab a hot dog, pretzel and a coke, eat/drink them and then go back for some ice cream before the tank is filled. They need to make a high flow pump for manly gas tanks like ours.

Well you should have a truck then that has only a 15-20 gal tank then, not much sense in having the big tank if you fill it at half all the time, means you don't flush that tank too good also. Also there was a thread somewhere that says if you have a fast fill pump you lose alot to vapor, not gonna have that, need a room to wait for it to fill then.

It's called a "Pre-Auth" & the industry standard is $50 or $75 but can differ from merchant to merchant.

Allow me to explain...Because "Pay at Pump" transactions are not "Face to Face" transactions merchants are liable for unauthorized (fraudulent) charges. Therefore, they set limits and it applies to PIN and signature based transactions. Merchants are protected from losses on the PIN side but they still set limits.

This really wasn't an issue until gas prices soared.
