If your basic half ton pickup could increase it's average gas mileage 50%, from 15 to 22.5 mpg over the course of a few years, can you imagine the overall savings? Even a 20% increase would be huge. You'd think manufacturers would be pursuing this... obviously they're not. They keep making 15 mpg trucks, and we keep buying them.
I bet a 6 cylinder diesel in a 5500 lb pickup could get 22.5mpg. That may happen in a few years, when the low sulphur diesel fuel becomes available.

titan gas milage with the 3.36 drive ratio

city driving i'm getting approx. 7 to 8 mpg.

on highway (flat road) at 70 mph, i'm seeing about 2100 rpm.

tbeecher: what final drive ratio does your titan have? (does it have the Offroad or Tow package)

luv the power, but what a gas HOG!

Tony has the 2.94 rear end but your mileage does not sound right. That's what I get for gas mileage towing my 6,000lb+ trailer with the 3.36 rear end.

DAMNNNNNN, that's horrible Pluck, you may want to stop in at the dealer and see what's up. Sounds like something is wrong BIG TIME!!!! With my 3.36 rear gears I haven't seen anything less than 15 and I'm averaging 17+ overall. Mine is 2 wheel drive for reference because I'm not sure if yours is 2 or 4 wheels drive. Even if it is 4 wheel drive you should be getting around 14.

pluck's a leadfoot

yeah, maybe true...
i and my wife got only 8 to 13 mpg for the last few years on a California model 2000 v6 4.0L wrangler hardtop with the lower final drive ratio and 30x9.5 tires, but that sticker advertised 14 City/18 Hwy mpg.

Yikes!

All this talk of gas mileage which is inconsistent withe the window sticker rating has got me thinking. At first I wanted an LE 4x4 Crew with the Big Tow. Now I'm thinking about getting it without the Big Tow and installing an aftermarket hitch as I don't tow a travel trailer. I only tow an 18 foot aluminum boat which weighs about 1500lbs between the boat, moter, trailer, gas, and accessories. The jury still seems to be out as to whether the lower gearing is the culprit or if it's the result of drivers whacking the accelerator all the time. I know I'll probably have a heavy foot for awhile but I'd like the option of driving "sanely" and getting decent mileage also. Anywhere in the 13 to 15 range I'd be happy with. Reports of 7 to 11 don't make me happy. So far, I'm seeing averages (on various message boards) between 7 and 17. That's a huge discrepancy. It'll be interesting to monitor mileage on the different boards over the next few months to see what people attribute different mileage averages to.

Yeti, I am getting around 14 just putting around town. I have driven a little over 200 miles one day and still got about the same which didn't make sense.. I only have 1200 miles so far so I am optimistic. Just talked to a Dodge Hemi owner (not 4x4) that is getting in the 8-11 mpg range (wow!) This made me feel better since I have the 4x4 SE Big Tow, Off Road. I'll be happy if I can see a 17mpg on road trips.

I work exactly 3 miles from my house but there is only one stop sign howevery my driveway is 1/4 mile of up and downhill gravel that at times prompts the use of the 4 wheel drive. So yes, I think on longer distances I will be satisfied. I just wish I lived further away from work...6 miles a day does't give me much time to listen to the exhaust let alone the RF system.

RockfordFosgate stero system

that RF system must be really good stuff, cause my SE Popular packge 6 cd changer already sound good, at #31 volume

i'll get the RF next time (didn't want to wait around for weeks for the RF AND 4wd & Big Tow packages)
