I have a 2005 titan and looking to increase my gas mileage

You really can't. Do the regular tune up stuff and that's basically it. Spark plugs, injector cleaner, air filter. No mods will help your gas mileage.

The cost of anything you buy will not pay for itself. You own a big, thirsty truck. Laying off the right pedal is about the only thing you can do. And don't lift it, or put on bigger tires...

Yep. You can improve the mileage slightly, but it will never pay out as you'd have to drive several hundred thousand miles to break even on the mod cost.

Being light with your foot and keeping speeds below 70mph when you're able will go a long way to getting the best mpg you can from these trucks. Ultimstely, that's still going to be 14-ish around town and 16.5-ish on the highway for a 4x4 with the 3.36 gears, and a little higher for a 2wd and/or the 2.94 gears.

Titan and the only other truck out there is the tundra - both dual over head cam V8 blocks with fuel injection....powerful and reliable and for the titan's introduction in 2004 a killer of a truck in power and towing capacity...

Toyota had to 1. build their truck in the usa (great marketing ploy to do so in texas) and then beat the titan....5.7 vs 5.6, towing barely over by a few hundred pounds, etc, etc.....but doesnt beat it in price...toyota is super proud of their truck and price isnt worth it to me when a Titan is as reliable as they are and cost 10-12k less.

Till this day its been hard for manufactures to beat the titans numbers...and now its happening but its taken years...they get close with direct injection and such and of course better gas mileage but not by much...

the responsive strong engine of a DOHC engine is nice to drive and i love it..

So I pay 500 more a year in gas then an ecobost v6 ford...pffff

I save in no repairs!

yes! thats a big one..C channel frame was iconic of the 90's trucks, the fact that the tundra came out with that was junk when the titan always had a fully boxed frame...

and the 4.7 was for suckers whom thought it was a good idea for gas...what a whack truck that was paired with the 4.7.

in the end, its the overal value for what you get the titan is still today a great truck.

I had Sequoia with a 4.7 .. the belt interval was 90,000 miles... did it myself.. wasnt too bad.
It had more than enough torque to move the 5600lb truck without ever once feeling like it suffered for power.
I owned it for over 60K... no issues and really decent mileage. I never once felt like a sucker.

This Nissan is .9 liters larger, and while it's also a really nice engine, that does indeed make some more torque... it's performance gain over the 4.7 Toy was no where near as mind blowing for me as was the truly crappy mileage.
I saw real life .. 14-15 daily 17-18 highway in the Toy.

I only see 13.8 in this Titan... no matter where I go or what I do. It only gets worse if not "soft footed"
I have 4wd CC with the 3.36s

BWV, somethings not right, seems to me... I get very consistently 14.5-15.5 mpg in mixed driving, can see 17-ish if on a trip and if I stay below 70 (tough to do in TX). I don't think I've ever seen below 14.5. Same basic set up - Flex Fuel, 4WD, CC and 3.36 - and I can't say that I am soft footing all the time. I did UpRev tune, but that didn't change my mpg.

Maybe you're suffering from the crap winter-mix gas in upstate NY? I don't know... Have you replaced fluids with synthetics in all the drivetrain components? I know it's a new truck to you - verified state of tune OK?

Mines not flex...but I am wondering if the ethanol portion is mangling the mileage...(that Sequoia got 15/19 every day before the ethanol)...maybe its the snow tires... and maybe the winter additive package is hurting me too.

I might have seen almost 16 on a ~200mile road trip once... but that was trying real real hard...like those contest guys with the Priuses ;)

I was gettin' less than 12 when I first got it... 'cause I was all happy with the new gas pedal :) now, driving human... it's steady 13.8

I think next item on the list is upstream o2 sensors and some plugs. Truck runs great and I'm not throwin' any codes....and when I watch the running parameters on the Torque App, it all looks to be in line...but 60-70K is a good time, in my book... for a little tune up.

I did put Synth Gear oil in the rear...but (new) Matic D is in the T-case (its not Synth AFAIK)... and GL-5 non synth in the front.

I know that I bought a big torquey V8 pickup that was gonna be thirsty and I really do love it...
Hehehe... I wasn't gonna type anything on this thread, nor complain about mileage any more than I have... and was just readin' along til the Toy 4.7 bashin' started :)

This truck, with that Toy 4.7, engine, trans, and t-case in it would do just fine, and weighing 300lb less, probably would get even better mileage than that Sequoia did.

Those are not bad numbers I get about 12.7 with the same options and yr truck. When my truck was new but fully broken in I was getting about 14.5 on average.
