2007 Titan... Gear selector doesn't work. More specifically, the button to put it into selection mode doesn't work.

For a while, I could make it work if I held the gear shift lever down. That, and the fact that this has happened before and that time, the dealer said it was a loose ground, makes me think it's electrical.

Is this common? Is there a DIY fix?

To complete the loop, it was the wires that run down the shift lever and into a harness inside the steering column. Three of them had broken due to wire fatigue right at the harness. Bad design on Nissan's part. After resoldering them onto the pins that go into the harness, all is well.
