Good evening ladies and gents,

Hopefully someone can help me out here. Sorry if it's a little long buuuuut I've got a 2006 CC XE (I know XE for sure) but I am having trouble figuring out if I have the 2.9 or 3.3 gears in the rear. Unfortunately the sticker on the rear end is unrecognizable so that's a no go. I cannot drive it right now due to it being in the shop for the transmission getting repaired and I am currently overseas so the 2k RPM method is out as well. I've reviewed the packages on Nissan help's website (I've attached a pic) and if those are correct I know I have the XE preferred as I have sliding rear window and the TRAC packages as I have factory tow hooks.

Now I know for sure I don't have the big tow package because I don't have the trans gauge and mirrors. But looking over those packages I may have the off road package as with the XE it looks like that is the only option with fog lights which I do have. I do have a skid plate under the front but as per that site I should have 3. I don't remember seeing 3 when I was home on leave in December but it was cold out so didn't spend too much time under there. I did not see any markings for rancho shocks but then again those could have been replaced as it's 11 years old. There are no 4x4 decals on the back but being 3 or 4th owner a previous owner may have removed the decals, I know I would as I usually remove decals and badges.

I am looking at buying a travel trailer this upcoming summer in which it will be my home away from home while working but the unloaded/dry weight is around 7500lbs which is over the 7200lbs. As I will be living in the trailer about 65-75% of the time I want it to be decent and really comfortable. I love my titan and really don't want to get rid of it for a different truck as it's only got 90k miles. So would anyone be safe to say I have the off road package before I get back stateside and tear the rear end apart just to find out??

Thanks, definitely going to be trying that when I get back stateside in July. Based on what I've read and if that nissan help site is accurate I would be 60% confident in having the 3.3 gears but will know for sure before purchasing the travel trailer.

I'd say you probably don't have the lower gearset. From what I've seen, it's usually accompanied with the tow mirrors. You also mentioned you don't have a trans temp guage, so also a no. To know for sure, do the trick with the wheel spinning/driveshaft counting when you get back

I agree with Danman, no tow mirrors, no 3.36 gears. 90% chance you have 2.94's

Well I will find out for sure when I get back home. Maybe looking for a titan with tow package. Anyone looking for a low mileage 2006? Lol

Don't think it is worth buying another Titan just for the tow package. I'm on my way back to the states as well and I'm planning to do the swap on my 07 SE 4x4. I found the 3.36 gears in a couple of different places. I can get the OE shipped for under $800 or go with the Yukon brand for just under $900. I can't imagine the labor costing more than $400-500, plus maybe $200 for installation kits and fluids. I ordered the tow mirrors for just over $200 from Rock Auto and will be ordering an autometer tranny temp gauge for around $100. That will make my truck the same as a Big Tow for an estimated total of $1600. My truck has a hitch, so I save some money there. YMMV.

Thanks for that, I will have to look into that as well. I know pretty much as soon as I get off the plane I will be doing the 70mph test / or rotation test. If that confirms 2.94 then I will be in a hurry to get new gears and installed.

Just keep in mind, even if you change the gears, add bags or whatever it won't change the legal capacitiesof the truck & it also won't make that big of trailer to be more stable behind the truck.

AZPRO4X, that is a great and valid point. Especially if I was to get into an accident. Once the truck is out of the shop, I'm going to have the wife do the 70mph test and go from their either look for a bigger truck or smaller travel trailer.

XE did not come with tow mirrors as they are power and the XE did not offer power mirrors.

Also back then trans temp gauge was not a given with tow package as some years it did not come with it. I bought my Titan new in 08, it had preferred package and tow package. No temp gauge but I got the 710 CCA battery hitch with7 pin and the decal is still on the rear.

On my 2010, the tow package only included the first 3 things on your list, no heavy duty battery nor did it come with the 3.36 gears. Every year is so different...

That trailer won't be anymore stable than it would be with a tow package, although it is wise to remain legal.

Just make sure you have LT tires, an adequate hitch, and use your manual shift feature, it'll be fine.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Wife got the truck back from the shop. 70 mph at 1650-1700rpms. May end up looking for a new truck as I'll need something capable of hauling a good size travel trailer that I'll pretty much be living out of.
