Getting ready to buy a Titan Pro-4X

So after lurking and searching here for a couple of weeks, I’m ready to make my first post. :computern

I am in the process of choosing my first Titan. I have weighed the pros and cons between the 07s and 08s based on the discussions made here. My original criteria was just getting a Titan with basic power packages, crew cab and 4x4. After reading here and doing additional research, I figured it was not going to be that plain and simple. I was first set on just getting an SE 07 or 08. The 07 was tempting me with the $5k rebate going on right now with Nissan but then I started looking into the Pro4x. Longer story short, I went back to the dealer and checked out a Pro4x in person after initially test driving an SE a week before. All I can say is that the interior on the Pro4x totally won me over with its red stitching. Anyways, my Galaxy Black Pro4x will cost me as follows according to KBB.com

$30,739 Titan Pro4X Crew Cab 4x4
$745 Destination Charge
$1,172 Popular Pkg: SE & PRO-4X w/Captain's Chairs Includes
- Garage Door Opener
- Inside Automatic Day/Night Mirror
- Rear Parking Sensors
- Power Adjustable Pedals
- Power Driver's Seat Adjuster
- Steering Wheel Touch Controls.
$694 Utility Bed Pkg: Includes
- Utili-Track Bed Channel System
- Spray-In Bed Liner
- Rear Bed Light
- LH Bed Side Lock Box
- Exterior Power Outlet.
$33,350 Total Invoice Price
$3,500 Nissan Rebate
29,850 Target Price before taxes

The price is higher than I wanted to spend initially but I think having the Pro4X interior along with its unique upgrades is worth the extra premium. I am now in the process of selling my car and my old Dodge Ram to help offset the down payment so I will be looking to pull the trigger within a month (hopefully the 3.5k rebate offer is replaced by something just as nice next month). The Titan will be used to commute to work, haul my streetbike, and little 50s around, and will be used to go light offroading. Not planning to rock crawl but I will take it to Pismo and have some fun at the Oceana sand dunes here in Cali. Anyways, now that intro is done with here are some of my questions for the Titan guys (I guess I coulda posted this in the a/v forum but might as well get it al done here ;)):

1. I am planning on installing the Pioneer AVIC-D3 with iPod cable, steering wheel control adapter, and rearview cam after a double-din kit is released for the ’08. Can you guys post pictures of where you guys mounted your rear view camera? I am planning on doing the install myself and have done several head units in the past but none with video or nav before so I will be taking my time with this one. Are there any special tricks I need to know about the titan in terms of wire placement and routing when installing the AVIC D3?

2. For the custom Tech12 sub enclosures that are very popular here online, how are you guys running your power cable through interior and into the back seat? I always like to separate my power and rca cables when running them underneath the carpet and wondered what is the best option for the Titan Crew Cab.

4. How good is the SE/Pro4x Nissan alarm system/immobilizer? I was planning on upgrading as soon as I could to a new alarm system with motion sensors, 2way pager, and remote start for the future upgrades that will be going on the truck.

5. The Utili-Track system is something that I will be putting to use quite a bit. However, I have noticed that it does not come in black. Have any of you powedercoated, rhinolined, or painted the rails so they do not stick out as much in the bed? With a black truck and bed, I didn’t want the railing system to stick out so much. Pics would be appreciated.

6. How good is the stock “Spray-in Bed liner” on the Titan? How does it compare to getting your bed rhino’d?

7. Are there any other options I should be considering on adding to the truck?

The only question I can answer from experience is number 6. I have hauled lots of things in my truck and the liner has never failed. Some people have had issues but I am unsure if those are on the early models. Welcome to the forum. I really like the truck you picked.
My advice....buy used. Just bought a $43K truck for just under $27K. Only had 32,500 miles which is just getting warmed up for a Nissan. Looks around and find a good used one about how you like it, then use the money you saved to make it how you want it.
Thanks guys... I had also kept my eyes open for used Titans but it seems like the crew cab 4x4s (especially in black) are hard to come by.

Did any of the other Off Road Titans come with the red stitch interior? I thought the red stitch interior was exclusive to the Pro-4X for the 08.
The seat stitching is exclusive for the PRO-4X, and really sharp looking IMO. Looking for used is a good idea, but my advice is if you find the truck you absolutely want (i.e. the 08 PRO-4X), then go for it. Another alternative may be to wait until next year and try and pick up a left over 08, which would have more rebates. But, pickings may be slim by then, so...
No doubt a black crew cab 4X4 is hard to come by, but that's exactly what I got. Had to look around for few days and drive to Tampa to get it, but I feel like it was definitely worth it.

But, if you're dead set on that new interior, go for it. No sense in getting something you don't want, no matter how good a deal it is. I walked away from several trucks that were ALMOST exactly what I was looking for.

Anyways, good luck.
I don't know if the Pro-4X comes standard with the Big Tow package, but if it doesn't then get it. Big Tow is worth every extra penny you pay for it. Good luck getting your new truck, post pics as soon as you can.
as to the bedliner ... see #6, it is about a half azzed product. Prep was the issue before hand, not any problems so far with mine. It is a part of the High Utility bed package however so it is needed in my opinion. There is njo way to install the utili-trac system as well as the factory due to the bracing in the background. You can buy Unistrut from a big box store and put a version of your own inlater, but it will not have the pick points needed for the strength. I would not worry about an 07 to 08 issue. The Pro-X4 is only on the 08, and you will love every minute. Great price by the way. I paid $29 for mine.

4) This truck is going nowhere without the key. I've heard of a Titan being stolen once, and it was because someone jumped into it while the idiot owner was refueling.

5-6) Like big tow, the bed package is worth every penny. The rails and cleats I have used a hundred times. The bed liner looks better than any aftermarket spray-in because the seams are all well-done and the hardware all LOOKS like it flows with it. And that toolbox is great for all sorts of stuff, tow strap, jumper cables, tape, tools...

7) Big tow. Big tow. Big tow. I like the reverse sensor, the compass and temp gauge so the popular package was a must for me too. And column shifter! How's your g/f supposed to give you a blow job with the floor shifter in the way?!

Andrew
OK Big Tow... If I am not going to be pulling anything large in the near future, what are the other benefits of the big tow package? KBB says the tow package is only an extra $491 so it may be a good upgrade. I'm just not sure if I like the look of the bigger mirrors yet either.

In terms of the used or other trucks, I figured I have not bought a NEW vehicle ever. All my cars/trucks in the past have all been used. So it was time to finally take the plunge. That plus my Ram is at 190k miles and my car is at 170k and they are starting to show their age.

That plus the side compartment, utilitrackm and power outlet from the utility bed package is really selling me on the truck.
Big Tow will give you a lower final gear ratio, 7 pin wiring harness, relays for all the trailer lights, plus some other technical stuff that I don't get into. There have been several people on here that didn't think they needed BT when they bought their truck only later to discover that they did need it. Trucks are made to tow and haul stuff, you never know when you might have to pull a chevy or a ford out of a mud hole. You will not regret getting Big Tow. As far as the mirrors go it took me a while to get used to them, but now I love them.
Get the big tow and the big mirrors. The back-up sensors are the most underrated option on the truck. I thought that the sensors were ghey when I purchased the truck. Now that I have a house and three active Toddlers, I'm glad to have it beep at me when I back up!

Good luck.
If for no other reason than you have never bought yourself a NEW one, that is a good enough one for me.

The BT is worth it as a trade in value later, and the mirrors will grow on you rapidly once you get the truck. One you do tow something, you will wonder how you ever did it without them before.
The mirrors are awesome. The smaller bottom mirror virtually eliminates blind spot. Sooo nice when changing lanes. You'll love 'em.
Thanks for the input guys. I jut checked again and KBB says the Tow Package is only $391 more as opposed to my typo of $491. So I will try to add the tow package if I can. I really wanted to keep the purchase price below $30k but with all the goodies, its nearly impossible and was happy to see I could aim at 29.9 with what KBB said. We'll see how my negotiating skills are in a couple of weeks. :D

The big row mirrors retract in correct? Are these powered or do I have to go outside and push the mirrors back in and out when I am towing something?
Don't know about the 08's but my 05 you have to manually extend them in and out, but it is super easy.

I had the same problem...new gf has no trouble overcoming the center console and shifter though. Where there is a will there is way.

PS, and way off topic...she almost killed me one night driving over the pass....never thought I'd be mad about such a thing...but I've heard sudden impact creates an automatic clenching reflex...

Having said all that...

I vote to buy a used one...I bought a new one...and wish I would have saved some $$$
It's pretty interesting hearing the recomendations here on picking up a used Titan.

If a used Titan is going to cost me in the range of $25k, then I would rather spend the few k more to pick up a brand spanking new one with all the options I wanted.

Looking at craigslist, theres an 04 LE Crew Cab 4x4 going for $22.5k. This one has 24k miles.

Theres also an 04 SE CC 4x4 with 105k miles asking for $16k.

I don't see any other crew cab 4x4s listed here in northern cali. In so cal theyre asking for $25.6k for an 06 XE CC 4x4.

I'll look again at some of the new 07s but the used market doesnt look too good here in California.
Buying new just isn't a good investment. I mean, if you really want to go ahead. It's your money. And if you really can't find what you're looking for, you might have to buy a new one.

Think about this though: I just bought a truck for 16K less than I would have paid had I bought it new. For 16K I can get rims, tires, a lift, a supercharger, flip down side steps.....you get the point.

On top of that, the truck will likely have a scratch or 2 on it. I personally like the fact that I don't have to worry about putting the first scratch on it.

I wanted a new vehicle pretty bad a few weeks ago. Went truck shopping with my dad, who could write a check for any brand new vehicle he wants, and he told me straight up that buying a new car is for suckers. ( I then asked him why the last few cars he bought were brand new....didn't go over so well...) But it turns out he was right...used is the way to go. Saved a ton of money which I ended up spending on my truck anyways.

Oh F-it....just go buy a new truck already. You know you want to.
