Gnarly Vibration at Freeway Speeds after Offroading

1419 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  TitanRider
I went riding this weekend and tested my new coilovers and a-arms. While offroading I hit the right front end on a little mound of dirt and bent the skid plate. On the home, with my bike in the bed and had no vibrations. Unloaded and rinsed the truck off and drove on freeway to dry it off and vibrated my whole body, made my vision a little blurry and the dash was shaking pretty bad too. It doesnt vibrate constantly but when it does its bad. I'm thinking maybe that right front wheel might be unbalanced. Do you guys have any other suggestions?
Heres a pic of the goodies. Going to Johnson Valley this weekend, will take more pics. Not as windy as Ocotillo Wells.

check for caked mud on the rims...do you have stick on weights? I've had those fall off on my last truck...
Well there is no caked mud and all the weights are on all the rims. As I drove it another day its not so much a vibration but a rough ride. And it kinda feels like its coming from the rear end. I dont know but hopefully a wheel balance and alignment fix this problem. I did buy the coilovers used, could they need to be revalved?

Shocks and alignment will not "cause" a vibration. An imbalace will. Its probably your tires. Did you tag the driveshaft with anything? is the vibration fast...like the drivline before the diff, or slower like in relation to the tire speed. Does it happen in every gear? Rotate your tires and see if it goes to the front. Have a buddy drive next to you on the highway and see if he sees anything unusual. Depending on how bad you smashed the front, you may have a tire that is starting to seperate. Again...rotate tires to isolate the problem. Or put the stockers back on and see if it goes away.
My next move is to have my buddy drive it and see WTF is the problem. Its a vibration but sometimes it feels like the suspension is just blown are not working right. And the strangest part was it rode normal for 150 mi with my bike loaded up and then it started this when I unloaded the truck. So I think its the front since less weight was on it on my way home. Maybe I bent a control arm or spindle or hub. Hopefully I can find out win I get an outside view.
Update:
I got an alignment on Wed. and what a crappy alignment. My steering wheel was off center to the left now it is to the right and it still pulled to right. Before I went back there Thur. I got my wheels balanced and the wheel was bent. Go back to the shop, wait for about 10 min and the guy basically tells me they can't adjust the camber due to the different coilovers and a-arms and any other shop would verify this. BS!!!!! I went to a local aftermarket truck shop and that guy said the cam bolts weren't adjusted. Man was I steamin :flame: Then I go to my buddies house that helped me with the install and we cranked up the coils and adjusted the cam bolt. Man that guy screwed up and all he could do was pass the blame onto the different suspension.
