Good Brakes for a 17" Rim

956 Views 12 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  dss90c
OK guys...

I'm thinking of getting some new brakes. I have 17" rims and tow a 7500 lbs camping trailer from time to time so I really would like some stopping power. The new Titan brakes will not fit with 17's nor will Stillen Big Brake which are also kind of pricey anyways.

I thought I read some where (could be wrong) the drilled rotors aren't really that great but slotted brake rotors are...confusing?

OK...let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

From what I read, slotted rotors and new ceramic brake pads is the best dollar-per-dollar brake upgrade. EBC, Powerslots, Stillen and a few others offer brake rotors. When its time to change the brake pads I'm also installing new slotted rotors.
I run the Stillen replacemnt rotors and pads and they have worked great for a long tim now (probably 45k miles, i do need new pads soon though) and no warping and really no fade. I do baby my truck though.

Now that's the understatement of the century!! LOL!:jester:
Definitely would suggest to go slotted over drilled. I found cross drilled good on initial bite but they tended to fade more under load. Big brake upgrade is on my consideration list when the truck is out of warranty and ready for brake work.
Cross drilled also have a tendency to crack after being heat cycled. Slotted is they way to go for a daily driver.

Pads to consider:
EBC "green stuff"
Hawk
Metal Matrix

That's what I read...they crack.

Anyone else out there making good brake for a Titan wearing 17" rims besides Stillen....Just wondering?
I'm pretty sure Powerslot makes something. Combine them with the EBC pads and you will be golden.
Thanks for the suggestion mantis!
I have actually used that combo on two 350Z's withing the past year, and they love the combo. They tell me that pedal feel has increased, as well as initial bite.
I read on a different forum that the EBC pads are dusty, anyone have an opinion?

How about dba rotors, is anyone running those?
I just installed (400 miles ago) the EBC greenstuff pads with the EBC slotted and dimpled (not cross drilled) rotors. So far, so good.
