Got a 2000lb trailer w/Jeep...weighing in @ 6000--> Need recommended tongue weight

I've got a 2000lb trailer w/ a 3500lb jeep...going to be towing to SC from FL tomorrow. I just want to ensure I don't have to much/not enough tongue weight. What do you guys think? Total weight is looking like 6000lbs. I'm thinking somewhere around 600-900?

I have an 05 SE w/offroad and big tow.

Total weight is looking like 6000lbs.
10-15% is ideal, and that brings you to the 600-900 lbs as you thought.
You need a WD hitch w/900 lbs of tongue weight.

I read somewhere that it's required by law to have a WD hitch once the trailer is over 5000lbs. :shrugs:

600-700 is usually ideal. The biggest concern is how evenly the load is distributed. If there is too much weight forward, then the load will push your rear end down too much while lifting your front end up. That would take too much weight off of the front end of the truck and could cause braking and steering problems. If the weight is too far back on the trailer, it could lift the rear of the truck off the ground while braking and sending your truck sideways and jackknifing the trailer.
