***GOT MOLD***in my truck

6052 Views 34 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Titanomachy
I was vacuuming my truck this morning. And when I lifted the passenger side floor mat the carpet had about a foot in dia. spot of mold, Still fuzzy mold so it's still alive. I can't find any signs of a leak by the Ac drain line or the heater core under the dash. And it doesn't smell like antifreeze. I am gonna take it to the dealer and have them mess with it. What do ya think I should do? Demand a new carpet or just let them clean it. Now that I uncovered it, it really smells. Also Do ya think this will be covered under the extended warranty. Any ideas.

Mold is a HEALTH issue. New carpet and padding and accept nothing less. Be polite, state your case, and be firm!

How old is your truck? You have to prove you didnt let the moisture in that started the mold problem.
check the tsb's. there is a service bulletin regarding a too short a/c drain elbow allowing moisture to drip into the cabin.
You have to have continuous moisture for active microbial growth. You have moisture getting to that area somehow.

Carpet and pad should be replaced, not because of the health issue but because it has started to rot, IE the mold is eating the cellulose backing of the carpet. But yeah you can play the health issue card too and send them in a panic.

FYI mold spores are everywhere. you breath it every day all day long. You were breathing it the day the spores got wet and started to grow. So don't about getting sick and dieing.
Replace the carpet, get the seats cleaned...

Have the A/C drain line fixed.

Good luck
Sorry I have'nt been apart of my own thread here guys. I am gonna go to the dealer next week and have it looked at. Hopefully they don't give me a hard time about replacing the carpet. It's always a stress test when I go to the dealer. Thanks for all the info. I will post back the outcome.
** UPDATE** There is a split in one of the body seams under the passenger side carpet. They did some kind of water test??. So it's not covered under extended warranty. They are gonna seal the split and steam clean and disinfect the carpet and padding.
I've got some water leaking in the passenger side carpet/mat as well. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow, we'll see what they find.
Post back maybe we can get some money back from Corporate if its common to these trucks.
I am in the same boat, my trucks been in the garage since last Monday. It will be at the garage until at least this up coming Thursday. My pass side floor has about a dinner plate size wet spot in it.
I'm curious did you guys have the a/c drain line TSB done.
They have checked my A/C evap line and couldn't find a leak there so my dealer said they couldn't perform the TSB for it, since they could not find a leak there. So far nothing has been done to mine, other than searching for the leak.
I dropped my truck off this morning, and the service advisor said that there is definitely a leak somewhere. The floor mat wasn't wet at all, and I don't have anyone in the passenger side most of the time, so they can't say it is just snow/rain soaking through the floormats. Plus my mats are rubber on the back side, so they shouldn't let any of that through. My driver's side is completely dry, and it rained/snowed all weekend.

The passenger carpet and mat underneath were wet, and the padding that is on the lower firewall was completely soaked. We'll see what they say.
I picked up my truck tonight and they said that it was the A/C drain line. They found a TSB for the issue, and this should solve the leaking issue.

They replaced the "Ventilation Hose", Part #17226-AC305
I have the same problem. Just got back from the dealer they said it would cost me 90.00 to check it out. I told them I would check it myself. I just had a feeling they were gonna find some way of saying it was not covered and it would cost me 90.00 to fix something that should be under warranty. I'm going to another dealer now that I know there is a TSB on it.
After I got my truck back I dried out the carpet & firewall pad. Then noticed this weekend that the wetness is back again. It has been raining a lot and I think it's leaking at a body seam. I have left the carpet up so that it won't soak any more water up, and just put a towel under it.

It seems like it only gets water in the front right corner of the firewall pad and then in the center of the passenger carpet. Taking the truck back in on Thursday for them to "fix" it again. Hope it works out this time.
I get about a CD sized mold spot under my passenger mat every couple of weeks! I have a 2004 XE!

I get my truck back from the dealer today, I will check what body seam they had to seal, maybe its the same seam on all the trucks that is failing. The extended warranty did not cover the body seam fix, So if you want to wait till I post some pics of the failed seam. I will post them Wed. You might be able to seal it up yourself. Or put a sprinkler under the truck and look from inside where the leak is.
I've only got 31,000 miles on the truck, so I think it will be covered until 36,000. I do have an extended warranty until 100,000 miles, but it probably doesn't cover anything!

Bringing my truck in tomorrow (Thursday), so the pics would be great to have. Thanks!
