Yesterday I scooped up an 04' titan SE 4x4 king cab. All I can say is "holy hell!". It is my first fullsize truck and the power is quite impressive. Im commin from an 03 xterra and dont get me wrong, the xterra is a great suv, but I now understand what Ive been missing. Its black with gray interior and is bone stock. I know I will not be able to resit the modding for very long and already have many questions. I hope to learn alot from this community and from what I have seen already this is really a great site.

Welcome! The power is quite impressive! I just picked up last friday an 09 F150 XLT with 5.4 V8 and drove that around all weekend..then the girly and I went for a drive last night in the Titan and you really appreciate the power behind these trucks! So take care of it, and it'll take care of you!

..for your list I highly recomend buying a new radiator and IPDM and storing them in your garage. These are common issues and honestly, if you have them on hand you will save yourself a headache.

Radiator can take 3-4hrs to replace when it cracks (passanger side, bottom, facing engine) and the IPDM will take you about 15 minutes to replace. The relay for the ECU burns out and can leave you stranded. Mine left me in the starbucks parking drive through. A common issue but not AS common as the radiator. And most dealerships don't carry them on stock so if yours goes out, you may have to wait a week before you can drive your truck again.

Anywho, enjoy the new ride!!

Uhhhh.... How much is a radiator and wtf is an "IPDM" and how much does that cost? Thanks for the tragically disheartening yet potentially useful insight!!!

peace and Gods Love up you,
pachanga
A lot of guys have gone with a Koyo radiator..between $120-180 on the internet. I personally had an OEM radiator slapped in my T at 50k miles at the Nissan dealer..and now at 73k miles, I'm already ahving overheating issues and last thing on the list is a radiator (probably clogged?).

IPDM = Intelligent Power Dist. Module. Located directly behind the battery in the engine bay. There are two black boxes behind the battery. This is in one of them boxes. My cost out the door was $181..but some people got em OTD for $130 or so. Depends on the dealer/stock

Don't worry about it. Like I said, just buy them if you can on hand and when they go out, you'll be able to fix it right away instead of waiting.

The Titan is a great truck, I wouldn't regret the purchase. Just keep up on all the maintance and you should be fine.

You got an 04, the first year sold. I highly recomend using the SEARCH function and looking up the following:

Radiator
IPDM
Rear diff (axle)
Tranny; Tranny cooler line; true trac
fuel guage
air bag light (stereo)

Just educatate yourself. It'll help you when it comes to saving money on simple repairs..well except the tranny lol

Heck, why don't you just get an extra Titan to park in the garage in case something fails if you're gonna go that route?? I don't think those failures are common or everyone here would be driving F150s. :deathsent

Enjoy your new truck!!! Looking forward to the pics. :D
Well put Pops.

lol you guys are something else. They are common. Unlike a common issue such as the A/C button not working :bangit:

Facts are facts guys. If the IPDM goes out, better to do it youself for $150 instead of $400 at the dealer for 15min of work, minus the fact your truck may be stuck somewhere, who knows where. THEN you gotta tow it to the dealership/home, THEN if you tow it to home, you gotta find a ride to the dealership to get the IPDM, and a 50/50 chance of waiting. Out of 5 dealerships in Denver, only one had one in stock. I'd hate to wait a week to not drive my truck.

Same thing with radiator, if this dude can use a screw driver then why pay the dealership $900 to replace a radiator when he could do it himself for $200 with coolant, and slap in a better radiator then crap OEM.

Oh lets mention the radiator cap. These guys won't say it's a common issue but it is also. No spring vs spring..which one should you get?!

....take it for what it's worth. Clearly these issues are pretty common. Search, you'll see.

And yeah, some guys with 04's have had no issues at all. Others like myself have had a very long list of issues. Each truck is different. And I get ragged on because I sold my junk to a buddy (who knows about the issues) instead of trading it in and letting someone else possibly have to deal with BS issues with no past history ;)

And that explains your personal agenda, now doesn't it?

Welcome to Titantalk.

Good information on the boards.

I'm an '04 and love it!

With any vehicle a part of your budget should be in the maintenance of it and with some knowledge of the common issues any vehicle has, you can have a very reliable one.

If you're going to mod, I would consider some useful upgrades to avoid potential issues.

1. New slotted rotors
2. Trutrac rear differential
3. Mag Hytec extra large differential cover
4. PML extra large transmission pan

With an '04, your battery is nearing the end of it's natural life so an Optima Battery isn't a bad thing to consider.

Have fun and show us what you got when you get the chance.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the alternator.

Perhaps you would care to give him some pointers to go with your advice.

Like this for instance?

pachanga,

Don't worry about those things until you have to and beware of advice from certain posters. If you ever need help, there are a lot of qualified members here that will give you a hand. Just ask!

Altnerator isn't a common issue :bangit:

But regardless it's a hard sucker to get out. Or is it easy..?

Look, advice is advice. Take it for what it's worth. Plain an simple. That's all.
I'm not here telling him to stick a full gas can in the back of his truck if incase he runs out of gas......

And last thing I'd expect from a mod is harrasment against a member for simple advice.
