GRRRRRRRRRRRRR - "CAT" stolen

1624 Views 22 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  FireCapt103
Since I bought the Titan, I've been storing my '98 S10 at a buddy's land. Went out to get it this weekend to bring it in and clean it up for sale. Wanting to sell it to help with the down payment on a house. You know, since my wife, daughter and I actually WORK for the things we have. Unlike other who STEAL them.

Started it up... LOUD!

Scared me! I turned it back off and 2 thoughts crossed my mind.

1) it rusted through in the year I've been letting it sit.
2) someone stole the catalytic converter.

I get out and go around to the passenger side. I lie down on the ground and my fears are confirmed. Some jackhole has stolen my freakin' CAT.

I found a cheap one at Autozone ($60) and bought some pipe to fit where they SawZAll'd it out. Fortunately, they left the flanges.

Torques me off to no end that there are people out there like this.

I'll have pictures of the "surgeons" work in the morning once it brightens up.

wtf?? wow, that sucks i don't see y someone will steal a used cat.
There was just a lengthy article in our newspaper about this very thing. Sounds like some vehicles have some really pricey CATs, and the damage these azzwholes do sometimes leads to many thousands in repairs (cut or damaged fuel and brake lines are common, and wiring harness problems as well) Trucks, SUV's and vans are the biggest victims because they are easier to get under.

I feel for you. Nothing can really be done about this I guess.

Another reminder for everyone to keep their tailgates locked as well.

At best its about $20 to $50 at the metal recyclers.

It has a palladium in it. A very, very negligible amount of palladium.

As with all the other metals right now - palladium prices are thru the roof.
i thought cats used platinum
I hear about his stuffs on the news but to actually read about a fellow member really sucks. Sorry to hear.

o, didnt know that, now i do, cool
that does suck. unfortunatly, more and more ppl would much rather steal or turn to a life of crime.
someone should make a mod that directly connects your rims and/or exhaust to the battery. that would teach some jackhole to steal ur stuff.
They are also being used in meth labs, another reason their theft is on the rise.
Just hearing about this irritates me. My buddy had his brass sprinkler heads stolen from his yard, because of a couple of crack smoking freaks went door to door and had stolen hundreds of these for recycling. When they went to recycle them the cops nabbed them....:gunz:
This thread is just disturbing, how can we as humanity in a whole be coming to this. This is just crazy for people to do something like this, I hate a thief. I am sorry to hear this from a fellow member.
be happy you dont live in CA, where we have to get a a freakin mechanic to do it because retailers cant sell it to you, hell you cant even get it on the internet cus they wont ship any cats to CA. I think I remember my old 97 Prelude needed a replacement cat and they wanted like 500 bucks lol. I bought a "High-flow' cat off ebay from a shady seller for 30 bucks and voila!
That is crazy because one of my choices at Autozone was regular cat or "california certified" cat. So, I in Tennessee, could have bought a CA certified cat, but you, in CA, can't. That's messed up.

it sucks what you have to go through so some one can get money for "trace ammounts of precious metals"

the first people asked around here when something big and expensive goes missing are the local metal recyclers.. sometimes they don't talk though. it's bad...
hey there dude sorry bout the other titan it was beautiful as far as i see now i was just wondering if you still have it or if you know who took it other than the insurance because i just bought an 07 crew cab but it didnt come with the chrome grille like yours if you do have it are you willing to sell the grille?? if you dont thats fine also do you know where i can get the chrome grill set?? im really wanting one thanks and sorry about the titan
We have had 20-30 stolen per night in neighborhoods and the local Nissan Dealer! Neighborhood where it's happening the most is drug HQ and many Recycling places nearby. It is in the papers every month here (actually Glen Burnie area mostly, but has been in Annapolis too). As Sammy said, it's the Meth users who usually do this particular crime.

There are some who are putting steel bands of some sort to lock in the CATS and make it difficult to cut out with just a hacksaw or tubing cutter. Every bit helps. Would like to see it, and get it done. Fortunetly, I'm in a secluded, quiet street. Just no traffic through here at all. Where it hashappened, has been busier neighborhoods, and of course, the dealerships often.
Insurance co. sold it to Copart? to be auctioned.
