H7 battery in place of 24F?

I’m annoyed with replacing my battery every year whenever the temps get to the teens or below. Damn truck won’t start with anything under 12 volts even if it will crank fine - thanks Nissan!

Rather than blow 440 on an odyssey deep cycle I was thinking to first at least try an AGM.

Walmart has been my battery of choice supplier as the 24F Everstart Maxx made by Johnson Controls (who also make the Odyssey) is only $120.

They don’t carry a 27F which I read the big tow package necessitates/comes factory.

They do carry an H7 that puts out 850 CCA and is AGM so I can’t imagine it’s not worth the extra scratch at $170.

Comparing sizes:
24F: 10 3/4 x 6 13/16 x 9
27F: 12 1/16 x 6 13/16 x 8 7/8
H7: 12 7/16 x 6 15/16 x 7 1/2
Seems like it could fit??

Anyone find something better on a budget?

Thanks!

Looks like I’m on the right track…

I wasn’t sure if I could trust the measurements on the Walmart site as the specs given in their descriptions varied from the picture with the diagrammatical measurements.

The measurements I posted were from either a universal chart or a battery manufacturer.

I also found a reference that H7 is also known as 94R. In which case odyssey shows 840 CCA vs 810 for their popular pc1700 ($440) but for “only” $340 for the H7.

Hmmm, cheaper and more CCA?

Edit: apparently the sizes are more like suggestions where a manufacturer can spec a battery group size and the vehicle should fit any battery of that group, as there is a maximum size any battery in that group can be. But for us tinkerers it means the brand might make a difference. I also read the style as in type (AGM, leaf acid, etc) can make/account for the variations in case size.

Good times. Off to Walmart with a tape measure, I’ll mind the terminals;)

I checked clearance with the 24F by putting tin foil fashioned into a cylinder (oriented like tin can on a shelf). I’m showing 2 1/4 inches clearance before the hood foam pad deforms it.

According to the Walmart site diagrams the H6 is only 1 1/2” taller so should work.

Just posting in case anyone else is out for a battery right now. I’d have used modeling clay but it’s too hard to bother with in the winter.

Bumping this thread to confirm that the H7 fits my ‘21 P4X. Positive power is about .75-1” aft, but hooks up fine. No battery tray trimming, no issues.

This was an Interstate battery at Costco for $169. 800CCA’s, same price as the 750CCA H6 next to it.
