Hakw LTS vs. EBC green stuff pads??

I'm gonna be needing front pads here soon on my titan and I had originally planned on going with EBC yellowstuff pads but I about had a siezure when I saw the price of them!!! The cheapest I could find was well over $100 just for the front pads! So now it's down to greenstuff or hawks LTS pads (or another good pad in this price range ~$75). They are both almost identical in price and I was just wondering which of the two are better? I would like more stopping power than stock (although with 08+ factory isn't bad by any means) and brake dust isn't a huge concern unless it's quite a bit heavier than stock pads. I'm also open to any suggestions for any other good pads in that price range. Thank you for any advice.

I haven't ever used the Hawk pads, but others say they like them. I have a pair of the EBC Truck/SUV pads on my wife's vehicle. I can tell you that they are excellent in the brake dust area. Hardly any at all. The bite is sudden on them however. It took some getting used to at first. But they stop fine for me. Either way you should be good, just decide what pproperty means more to you. FWIW
I get a lot of brake dust from the front hawk LTS pads. My front rims look like they are bronze, (brownish), most of the time. They stop very well, but then again the Nissan pads did fine on mine and no dust. Since OEM stuff is usually very expensive, I will likely get the EBC next time.

Same experience for me, I put the Hawk LTS pads on my 08 and they stop fantastic...much better than OEM. But like Norcal said, the dust is out of control. Within a week of washing my rims, they are bronze again. I went a couple weeks once and even my tires started turning bronze.

I only have 5k miles on them and they do seem to dust less as time goes on, hopefully that trend continues.
Wow, thanks guys. I think I'll go the EBC route because I don't want that much brake dust, that's crazy. I know EBC makes great stuff and that's what I used to run on my quad and they were always good. Thanks again for the info guys.
Man, I was thinking Hawk LTS too when the time comes..... maybe not now.....LOL
Just put EBC green stuff pads front and rear and front EBC rotor on the front so far so good.

Star, I was just admiring the stance of your truck and the tires. What brand tires are they? Any rubbage?

What have you done exactly to achieve this? Your signature states 1.5 level kit, 325/65-18s and bilstiens. Are those the stock 18x8 wheels? Any issues running the 325/65s (any rubbing?) Did all of your height come from the level kit or did the bilstiens add some (front/rear?).

Thanks, John

Thank you for the compliment! The tires are Cooper STT's which is their mud terrain and it's a VERY good tire and seem to be wearing pretty good. They are at about halftread now and I have a hair over 20,000 miles on them. They are starting to get kinda noisy though but that's common with pretty much any M/T tire. They were VERY quiet and smooth when new though and do VERY well offroad.
For lift I only have the leveling kit up front, the bilstien HD's do not add any lift they just perform MUCH, MUCH better than the factory shocks. The bilstien 5100's are the shocks that you can adjust for height. I have no rubbing except at full lock the tires slightly rub the frame. I did perform the pinch weld mod though and would have heavy rubbing if it was not done, but it's very easy to do. And last but not least yes those are the stock 18" wheels (stock wheels are the ONLY way you can fit 35's with just a leveling kit, they will not fit on aftermarket wheels) and their are many. many people that run 325 wide tires on the stock wheels. Yes they are a little wide for stock width rims but they work fine.

i had a warped rotor and replaced the whole front setup. I went with the froze smooth rotors and hawk pads. I have been very pleased with them. I haven't had the dust issue that other members are taking about. Ive went a month without washing the truck and they were just starting to turn bronze. With the stocks i would have black wheels in a week.
The dusting you are referring to, may be the rotor wearing if they're are not cryo treated rotors. I have a set on my Pathfinder, and get considerably LESS dust than I did the an over-the-counter 'Premium' pad I replaced. They also stop MUCH BETTER too. The old pads were a carbon metallic compound too.

99% of the Titan owners order the Hawk LTS pads. And none of them have reported any issues with dusting. However, the pads are ordered along with the cryo-treated rotors, which are obviously much more resistant to wear.

Thanks but my rotors are still in great shape and I have nowhere near the money to buy the frozen rotors. They are very nice, but just waaaaay out of my budget right now. The 08+ brakes are so stupid priced on everything because of how freaking huge they are. I love my big brakes but my god are they expensive to repair!
Silverstar,

I understand! We are offering a 10% discount to Titan Talk members. Everything seems expensive, and for that reason we try to offer the most value for the money being spent. For MOST Titan owners this is the last stop (no pun intended!) for brakes on these trucks. The 08 upgrade was and is an improvement, however even those owners are experiencing pre-mature wear and problems. Some have reported the rotors and pads needing replacement after just 5000 miles.

It's a lot less costly to replace pads...than rotors ALL THE TIME.

Your actually beating the odds if you've gone this far before replacing brakes! Nice looking truck BTW : ).

Thanks for the compliments. Yes I did have rotor issues and had to have my rotors turned at around 20k miles and replaced at around 24k miles (under warranty thank god) due to the rotors being warped. The pads have been great and sre only just strating to get near replacement with 45k miles on it and that's with around 20k miles with these HEAVY 35's mounted so I'm pretty happy. Trust me I would LOVE to have a set of slotted and drilled frozen rotors on my truck with a set of yellow stuff pads and have 370Z type braking but I honestly just can't afford it right now. I will be doing it in the future though because I just got my truck refinanced for a MUCH lower payment(hence the reason I can only afford pads right now) and will have a little money now to get back to modding my truck.
I should have went with the slotted and drilled. The new wheels i got really show off the brakes, and they are small and plain :(
Beason,

Slotted and Drilled really don't add much to the longevity of the rotors. In some heavy duty / high heat applications, the drilled rotors MAY develop cracks stemming from the drilled holes. For best all round wet and dry use, the slotted rotors offer the value and performance longevity benefits. Slotting removes any water that builds up on the face of the rotor and pad, during wet weather use. Plus it helps lower the temperature of the rotors, while also serving as a 'wiper slot' cleaning the pads with each wheel revolution. Contrary to some, the slots DO NOT cause pre mature pad wear.
We do offer a slotted and cross drilled rotor, however they are generally used to compliment the 'looks' of the vehicle.

Just an FYI.

Hope that helps.

yes "looks" is what i was refering to. The new wheels put the brakes on display.

Don't chance it.....go EBC. That is unless you like to hit the spray wash every week, or carry a bottle of wheel cleaner in your truck and a roll of paper towels! :D
So is the the EBC Yellow Stuff worth the extra coin?

i have the yellow pad and the ebc slotted and drilled rotors and i love them, night and day from stock, but i haven't tried the other pads before. i also love how the yellow sticks out from my matte black rims
