I bought a Titan a week and a half ago. Has anyone noticed that this truck drives like crap if you don't warm it up first thing in the morning. It is like the electronic throttle is not communicating with the engine and trans. When pulling away from a complete stop, the engine revs and the trans feels like it is in neutral and then it pops into gear. Each gear on up runs at a higher RPM than normal. I checked the owners manual and it says to warm up at least 30 seconds. I warmed up at least 30 secs this morning and it did it. I had to let it sit a half hour, start it again, warmed up 2 or 3 mins, and it was fine.

This is the only problem I've had, and I guess it really isn't a problem unless I was trying to get my pregnant wife to the hospital! Maybe the computer just needs time to set itself to warm idle or something. Anybody experience this?

Love this truck. Great forum BTW, I'm new here.

Is your truck sitting outside at night in the cold? I have mine sitting in an insulated garage and it doesn't have that problem. I start it up, back out and drive away without any hesitation.

I would take it to the dealer and have them check it out.

I say take it in. Mine idles down quickly & it’s not an extreme difference anyway. Perhaps living in sunny S. FL. is a benefit but .30 sec. or less & I’m at normal idle range, not operating temp. but ideal idle.

Mine has always run a little rough when I first start it. It is very hard to do a smooth launch for the first 5 minutes or so. I took it in and they kept it over night but could not find anything. I just live with it since it goes away in a couple of minutes.

Taking to dealer service dept Tomorrow morning. It is starting to kick into this mode even when warm. Runs at higher RPM. Service manager says he had no Titans in with problems. Figures, huh? Hopefully they can reprogram the computer. I am bummed.

I'll update tomorrow. Wish me luck that these guys know what they are doing.

44mag,

I know how bummed-out you must feel. It's totally weird how attached we are to these babies. Taking it to the dealer has to be like taking a member of the family to the doctor. It's gotta suck! I hope your dealer can fix you up and that you'll be toolin' down the highway with a big grin once again. Keep us posted...we feel your pain :crying:

44, I understand. Seems like any auto I take in something comes back messed up in someway. Anyway my mention of plug-in I’m only guessing but recently I had a manual car that just stalled every time I would shift out of gear, they simply hooked their computer up to my input plug & reprogrammed the ECU. Took about 2 minutes & it included an all systems check & never stalled again.

Optimist.

Hope that is it. Hate the thought of them having to keep it for days to figure out the problem. Traded in a 11 year old Toyota 4x4 that was never in more than 2 hours at a time.

Thanks to all for responding. This is crazy. I actually need moral support! Guess maybe I'll drink a beer tonight.
