Ended up getting advice from someone in the Atlanta area with the same issue. He said to not bother replacing it... just manually open the valve and remove the gears. The AC still gets plenty cold even for Atlanta. I am well north of there in the Midwest so if it works for him I am sure it will be fine for me. Most vehicles just run coolant through the heater core all the time anyway. What is the purpose of blocking the coolant ?
