HELP! Front Bumper Swap

Bought an XE front bumper from another forum member last week (thread) to de-chrome my 05 SE Titan. Was told it would bolt right up but found out over the weekend that wasn't the case. The XE bumper seems to mount completely different from my SE bumper, using many different parts. I should have done more research before buying it. Learned my lesson.

Now, I need help to identify some parts to complete this swap. Please see pics below with my questions. I want to stress that none of the parts in question below exist on my truck because again, the XE and SE bumpers mount very differently. Greatly appreciate your help:


1. All parts received from seller. I don't think bottom 2 circled parts are needed for the swap.



2. Circled bracket is from my truck and appears to be stricly used to mount my SE chrome bumper only. Can I just leave this part off on the swap?



3. The red circled part came from the seller. What bolts to use to mount to frame? Also, the blue circled brace is from my truck and is about 2 to 3 inches too long to mount to the red circled bracket. Are these braces shorter on the XE's?



4. Red circled bracket came from seller. Green circled holes are mounting points. Sorry, some holes are blocked in the pic but there are 8 of them. What bolts to use?



5. Red circled foam is the energy absorber from the seller. SE bumper does not have this. Green circled holes are mounting points. What bolts to use?



6. This is the seller's bumper dry-fitted onto the bracket from #4 above. Green circled holes are top mounting points. There are 3 more on the bottom on the underside of the lower grille. What fasteners to use?



7. Green circled holes are mounting points on either ends of the bumpers. They line up to existing holes in fenders. What bolts to use?



8. Bottom of bumper and my skid-plate. The skid-plate would go above the bottom of the bumper and the 2 green circled holes line up. What bolts to use?



9. Green circled hole is another mounting point on bottom of bumper with no place to mount to?

Pretty sure that you are correct on point #2 (you can remove bracket)

Look at service manual, section EI. For 2004, it shows some wedge type clips along the top of the bumper for your point #6.

Perhaps something like this: Nissan Front & Rear Bumper Push-Type Retainer

I am not at all sure that is the correct one.

Thanks. Almost fell out of my chair when I saw the price tag for each...but then the description says pack of 10. I'll need at least that many.

After thinking about it, at the bare minimum I would need to bolt up # 4, 6, 7. I can leave off # 3, 5, 8 as they seem to be for safety and protection more so than holding up the plastic bumper. Can I get away with that?

If so, you already gave me the part for #6. Worst case is I temporaily zip tie them.

What about # 4 and 7? Can anyone with an XE help out please?

#4 & #6 use the same bolts. Is #6 threaded if not it is a newer model reinforcement bar the bumper is Pop Riveted to it.

#4 is threaded, #6 is not. Worst case, I can zip tie #6 and possibly #7. But what threaded bolts to use for #4? It seems smaller than the bolts used to tie my SE bumper to #2.

The service manual does not have a part number for the bolts, they have a 10mm head and are fine threads, the dealer may be your best bet on getting the correct bolts.

In the #9 pic, the green circled mounting hole at the bottom of the front bumper is for the screw that secures the front part of the wheelwell splash shield to the bumper. The plastic wheelwells on the XE go all the way down to the bottom of the front bumper.

Thanks. Dealer near me was the first place I tried. They don't have the parts I need in stock and if they ordered them, I cannot return even if the parts were wrong. Parts rep was not certain on the correct parts either and they're $4+ a pop. Based on the size you gave me, think I'll just run to Home Depot this weekend and do trial and error.

Ahh, that makes sense. I guess even the wheel well splash is differnt between XE and SE. I don't suppose missing the bottom 4 mounting holes would affect the plastic bumper too much.

Could you also tell me what holds #7 together if you could see them on your XE? These holes are smaller than all the holes in #6 and I am curious if there are any gaps between the bumper and the fender so they don't rub together?

These 2 points have plastic inserts that go in to the holes in the skid plate and fender. The center tabs on the bumper go beneath the skid plate after it is installed and 10mm heads screws (not bolts) go there. If i remember right the fender use 8mm headed screws to hold the bumper tight against the fender, so there is No gap between the fender and bumper.

There are no gaps between the front bumper and fender on the XE's. #7 is held together by two 10mm bolt screws that screw into plastic push-in retainers that insert into the bumper hole. You can generally find these at the local hardware store or automotive parts place. However, if I were you, I'd use the correct OEM 10mm bolt screws and just get them from Nissan.

Rims in my sig are old MB Motoring Smooth 20's that I sold a while back. My current rims are Centerline Stingray III forged aluminum 20's. Together with my current tires, they weigh about 3 lbs lighter each compared to stock 18's.

Just a quick update. After 2 trips to Home Depot and spending $7, got the bumper installed yesterday.

  • For #4, I bought 6mm x 20mm bolts w/10mm heads. Also used some washers
  • For #6, I bought what bestatchess recommended. They are almost a perfect fit
  • For #7, just couple of small bolts and nuts with washers to join the bumper tightly to the fender
  • For #8, couple of plastic anchors with metal screws

Left off #3, #5 and #9. This time, took me about 30 minutes and I didn't remove the headlamps.

Overall, this XE bumper is alot flimsier than the SE metal bumper. However, I like the new look and I think I shaved almost 50 lbs off. The front sits higher and the truck looks just about completely leveled now.
