I have a 2014 Pro-4X that has been running great, no issues, no warning lights, no nothing. Yesterday I went to the truck and I had power, windshield wipers, A/C, Radio, etc. but when I went to start it, it was dead. No click, no turning over, nothing. It was completely quiet.

I checked the battery, it was good. I had it towed in to the Nissan dealership here in N. Charleston, SC and they called me last night saying that it was the IMPD (sp?) error being thrown along with 7 other errors.

Today they called me and said that the wiring harness was completely burned through in numerous places. Of course they asked me what I did to it. I don't abuse my truck, it's not been off roaded other than just a couple dirt roads (nothing even hardly bumpy) nothing that even required 4x4. They asked if I had worked on my truck, nope, haven't had to.

They called my wife, while I was unable to answer my phone, and told her, "Well, it's obviously not something that a warranty would cover," and then asked her if the truck had been struck by lightning. I would assume that, if it had, there would be some type of visual evidence of a strike. There's not. They told her to have me call insurance to see if they will cover the melted wiring harness due to a lightning strike.

I tried to call them back but they had just closed for the night. My concern is they are already trying to say that it's not a warranty issue. It's a 2014 with 47,500 miles on it so they are saying electrical isn't covered outside of 3 years/30K miles. I would think that would be radio, windows, etc. Am I wrong in my thinking here?

They are probably under no obligation to cover it as it is out of warranty, unless you have an extended one. You could call nissan and maybe they may help you out, but from what I hear on here I wouldn't hold your breath. It can't possibly hurt to try the worse thing they could say is no.

My '07 Titan was struck by lightning and my comprehensive insurance covered it. The truck was actually totaled by the insurance company as the estimated cost to repair it was greater than the value of it. In my case, all the controllers were fried...ECM, TCM, BCM, IPDM, air-bag controller, etc. It's not always clear where the lightning might have struck...in my case, it was the radio antenna. Good luck!

Thanks. I just got off the phone from filing my insurance claim. I went and looked at the truck in person and the wiring harness is complete toast. Burnt toast. There is also a place in the front wheel well, (pass side) that is right in front of where the wiring harness plugs in to the electrical system going up in to the engine bay, that is melted.

That's good info. to have when I talk to the estimator. Funny you say that (about the antenna), mine is NEVER loose and when it wouldn't start, I had my arm on the truck, looking at my phone, and just happened to reach up and touch my antenna and it was really loose, almost loose enough to fall off. Not sure that it would cause that but I'm sure lightning can do some weird stuff.

I guess we'll see what happens from here.

My insurance is going to cover it as a lightning strike, thank God. They are going to try to fix it now but I'm concerned about it having residual issues due to so much damage to the wiring systems and ECM. Because it's a 2014, the value on the truck is too high to total it out. I am not sure if I should immediately trade it off or keep it and see how it goes.
