The noise in the video is coming from inside the bell housing. I took of the dust cover and rocked the truck back and forth in neutral. I can hear a noise from inside the truck that sounds like a growling noise, that only happens when the truck is in gear. Checked the flex plate for any cracks through crank rotation and also the bolts. Everything there is good. Whatever this is, is on the output side of the torque convert. I took the truck to a trans shop and they said it doesnt feel like a trans issue nor does it specifically sound like one. Anyone who can possible diagnose please help!!

Mine is a 2wd. I just got it back from the transmission shop. The guys been doing this work for over 30yrs and is trusted. He said that he thinks the way these transmissions are designed, it allows the transmission shaft to spin through the housing and he thinks that the backside of the torque converter is spinning without fluid, since the pump only operates when the flex plate is spinning via the engine. So the noise we hear is some of the internals spinning without fluid moving through the trans. BTW he pulled the pan and flushed it, put new fluid in it and said everything looked great. So apparently that noise is normal with these trannies. If anyone else has more knowledge, please correct or fill me in.
Update on the noise I'm hearing. It's not the transmission or the rear diff. Apparently it's my actual driveshaft. Not the U-joints or carrier bearing, I had them replaced and the driveshaft rebalanced. The actual driveshaft is making the noise. Since the shaft is hollow, the noise bounces around and travels while under torque. Has anyone had any issues with their driveshaft on the 2wd trucks breaking or making noise? Dealer of course wants 1200 bucks for the new shaft. My local driveline shop will get me one fully loaded for 500. But at this point I have spent over 2k trying to solve this damn problem. But at least now I have new transmission fluid and a rebuilt rear end with a posi unit.
could you get a video of the noise your getting?I found out mine is the rear diff.was really hoping it would be easier or cheaper....
I had a transmission shop check it out and he said that the noise was traveling up making it sound like it was coming off the transmission.
I read a post on another forum and they recommended swapping the 04 axle for an 08 axle which is actually available cheaper on car-part.com.
Hopefully, that works better.
