Help with Tire fitment for 08 Titan Rims

Ok, I am new to the site, and have a massive dillema on my hands. My wife and I just got an 07 Armada LE with the 18" Chrome Rims, and while nice, I could not pass up a deal on line for some barely used 2008 Titan 20" rims. The rims, as most of you probably know are 8" wide. Hence my dilemma. I know this is a Titan sight, but my buddy, who's a member said to post here too.

Not knowing what I was going to run into b/c my 03 Sierra Denali, with 17 x 7.5" rims easily takes 285/60 17 Pirelli Scorpion tires...but for some crazy reason this has not been easy.

My tire search, after 3 hrs, came down to Toyo Proxes STs and Hankook Ventus ST RHO6. My optimal size is 295/50R20 b/c, compared to the stock 18s or 20s, it's 3-3.2% different, and on the smaller side, but Hankooks website says a minimum rim width of 8.5" is recommended...while Falken says 8" would fit one of their tires of the same size.

So, my wife is scared the tires will fall off, I don't want her worrying, and if I can't get that size I have to either get a 285/50 R20, which is more of a difference on the small size, or a 275/55 R20 which is not any wider than the stock 20s that come on the Armada and Titan which would really suck...so please...can anyone safely confirm 10s of thousands of miles on a tire this wide while on an 8" rim? Thanks so much.

let's just say my 35x12.5x17" BFG Mud Terrains recommend an 8.5" wide rim and my AR Mojaves are only 17x8" and i've got over 35,000 miles with 0 issues and even push them to the extreme when i air down to the teens (increasing the chances of popping the tire off the bead) and had no issues as well. so tell your wife to take a chill pill and relax, the tire will be fine!

lol, if I tell her that she will want to fight us both.:boxing:

Thanks man, much appreciated info.

Anyone else out there with experience on the wild side???:cheers:
Here's the skinny:

The correct set up would be 275.55.20 that would be perfect. No rub, it would maintain the overal O.D. (this means your speedo would read correctly) It wouldn't be too wide for the 8" width, there are plenty of tires to choose from and the prices are pretty good in that size.

275.55.20= Happy wife:thumbsup:

Now on the other note:
The reason why Falken's site probably says what it does is because Falken Tires tend to run narrow (has to do with where they measure from) If you are looking to run a slightly larger tire run a Falken STZ04 in a 305.50.20. This will still keep your speedo accurate and since they run narrower the Falken 305's are about = to the toyo or Hankook 295's. (FYI- if you want to buy warranties for your tires, (i.e. road hazzards) and you go with the 305's or 295's, a lot of places will not sell them if the tire manufacture thinks that the tire isn't the correct size for the wheel.)
