Sooo, I've got a 2006 LE 4WD, fully loaded, and for the last couple thousand miles, it makes a high pitched whine when it's accelerating, in the 1,750 to 2,000 RPM zone. Sounds like it's coming from the engine area to me. This only happens when it's in gear, and especially @ 2000RPMs.

A couple of months ago, I took it to the dealer for an oil change, and the first time, and got the ol' "Technician can't duplicate the symptom". On the way home, I still heard it. Then, 2 weeks ago after another oil change and the same response, I actually drove with a Tech in the car with me, and he definitely heard it. But after 20 minutes checking for loose belts, etc. underneath, they couldn't find a solution. The latest response was "let's see if it gets worse, and then maybe we can pin point it". Sounds like a lazy answer to me.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? Can you give me some insight, and maybe a Service Bulletin that deals with this. I've been digging through this forum for a week now, and can't find any solutions to the problem I'm having. Found a couple of guys that had the same problem, but they never replied with the fix. Any help is appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Rick

When you hear the whine, let of the gas and see if the whine stops. If so, prob diff going out. Sometime it is hard to tell where the sound comming from.

The whine for sure stops when I'm not on the gas pedal. So if that points to the differential, I'm for sure going to have the dealer look at it tomorrow. Honestly, I don't even care where it's coming from, as long as there's a fix. This squeak/squeal/whine has been killing me! Thanks for the input, guys.

mine does the same, i always though it was the fuel injection. It only happens when you are on the gas and as soon as you left off its gone. I can constantly hear it going 70 on the interstate. It sounds like it is comming from the engine compartment and not the back of the truck. I thought it was normal i just turn up my radio lol

Any air leak could cause it. Look for any loose parts, grab abd psh on the intake manifold or throttle body, but not too hard. With it in Park, and the parking brake on, have someone else rev the engine. Maybe you'll be able to pinpoint it, if everything else is quiet.

Shame it isn't because you'd put a supercharger on it, and were just teasing us! :)

Anyway, I was thinking the intake as well.

At one point about 2 years ago I noticed some kind of whirrring noise on fast take-off at about the same rpm's. I never did pin it down but thought it was the stock intake. It only lasted a few months. Maybe a spot where the filter element gets dirty, then as the air/filter flow gradually changes the noise stops. Just my guess.

I gave up and it just went away in my case. It also sounded like road/tire noise, but would stop when I let off the pedal.

Uh..Ok talk to my boss who not only used to be the general sales manager of a Dodge dealership but also had owned many of them, he said he was spending more time in the service department dealing with heated customers than in the sales office. Not to mention the front end failures and terrible vibrations his Ram 1500 had in 4x4

Mine does the same thing, It is really starting to bother me. It wines only when I push the gas usually above 45mph. Anyone have a solution? I am going to check my rear dif. fluid tonight and see if that's it. It has progressively gotten louder over the last couple months.

Remember, differential whine will usually always be at a certain speed, maybe 40-50 or maybe 60-70. Engine rpms mean nothing. Anything with the intake will probably happen in the same rpm range. If you have a diff whine at 45 mph, you can be in overdrive or in 2nd gear and the noise will still be there. A intake whirr or noise will usually occur at the same rpm.

Mine Made This Same Noise Between 1700 And 2000 Rpm's ,it Would Go Away If You Got Into The Throttle Or Let Out Of It. I Tightened The Hose Clamp At The Air Intake And The Noise Went Away! Hope This Helps!

I got that whine too after I did the Truetrac, it will go away soon as I let off the gas. Added a little more fluid and it went away. This is one of those thing that has many cause, has to pin point down where it's coming from. As from all the post, it could be from the intake to the rear diff.
