So why does the factory hitch with the tow package have a stamp on it that says it is rated for 5000 lbs (500 lb tongue weight)?

The truck is rated to tow 9200 lbs?

2005 Crew LE 4x4

Do I need a new hitch to tow max weight?

What you're seeing there is the Class III rating for the hitch. With a Class IV setup (weight-distributing) you can tow up to the max rating for the truck.

So...The factory tow package can't tow the max rating for the truck?

And I need to get a new receiver and hitch?

Am I understanding that correctly?

No. The factory receiver is a Class III/IV receiver, and you're reading the label related to Class III use without a weight distributing hitch. Get a weight distributing Class IV draw bar and you can tow the max for the truck.

Are you sure you have the factory tow package? I do have that package and the hitch is a Class IV.

The hitch and ball mount are different.

Hitch is Class IV

Ball Mount is Class III

Tractor Supply sells a solid steel 1 piece bar and ball mount rated at 10K - no threaded screw and nut to mount the ball - just one solid welded piece of steel. I use the 2 5/8" ball to tow the max my Titan can handle on a regular basis attached to the factory big tow class IV hitch - truck is a 2005 CC 4x4
