Horn Doesn't work (EDIT: Broken Spiral Cable)

I recently bought my 2005 Titan kingcab and never checked the horn (I have no idea why I didn't check before hand). I tried it the other day and it doesn't work. I checked all fuses in the fuse locations under the hood, and in the cab on the passenger side. I am unable to remove the Horn Relay to check and see if it works (Any techniques to get it out??). The horn doesn't make any sounds when arming/disarming the alarm either, I thought nothing of it since the previous owner stated that it was disabled (and I took him for his word).

Any other things it could be? Any ideas on how to remove the horn relay?

The relay is in the IPDM box. Use a pair of plier or something if it's giving you trouble

Thanks. I tried pulling it out previously but it was in there good and tight. Figured I would try and see if there was anything else it could be. The relay seems cheap enough to replace, but is there any way for me trouble shoot the issue (other than checking the fuses) and find out before buying the part? Is this a common issue?

You can try first to see if power is going to the horn itself (use voltmeter).
You can also apply power/ground directly to the horn to make sure they're not bad.

Checked the horn today. When pressing on the horn it gets 0 volts. When arming/disarming the alarm it gets 0.02 volts. I am thinking that it is something within the steering wheel now.

I was driving the truck today and it seemed like there was something caught (a wire?) when turning right. After that happened I pulled over and tried turning the wheel to the right but it seemed fine. The the same thing happened again a little later, but I forced it past the hard part since I was actually making a sharp turn. Now my steering wheel controls don't work either!

Is it possible that a wire behind the steering wheel, or within the steering column was caught and the forced of turning the wheel ripped/disconnected the wire? (I also found this thread: http://www.titantalk.com/forums/tit...controls-down-airbag-horn-cruise-control.html)

Took the steering wheel off and the spiral cable is indeed broken. I took apart the spiral cable and it looks as though a wire, I will check tomorrow to see which one, shorted out and melted the plastic part of the spiral cable, causing multiple layers to get stuck together. I am going to check the harness/wires that enter the spiral cable from the bottom (non-airbag) side and make sure that none are grounding out before installing the new spiral cable.

Replaced the spiral cable and now the audio controls and cruise control work again. The horn still doesn't work.

Pull the column cover off, unplug the GRAY connector and short the RED with WHITE stripe wire directly to ground. If the horn sounds the problem is in the clock spring contacts and if it doesn't the problem is in the wiring, relay or horn itself.

The horn works, as I sent a power to the horn directly and it honks.

In the IPDM box I tested terminal 2 (in the attached thumbnail) and it gets 12v, sent power through terminal 3 and the horn honks. Since I was by myself I was unable to test terminal 1, can't be in the car pressing the horn and under the hood at the same time. The way I would have tested terminal 1 was by putting one lead from my multimeter in the terminal, and the other to ground. When pressing the horn in the car it should read continuity correct?

I an hoping it is not the wiring, since that would be a super headache to figure out compared to it just being the relay. I believe it is the relay since even when arming/disarming the alarm there isn't any horn sound.

UMM.........well.......I think I would try swapping out the _ _ L _ Y. and see what that does.

Just tested the relay, works fine. I checked terminal 1 (in the above attachment) and that seems to be where the problem is tied to.

Did you try grounding the wire I told you try?

Oops, completely forgot to put it in my previous post that I quoted you on. Yeah, I did that any no horn sound, it did blow the horn fuse though. It seems as though the issue is further towards the relay.

I have a nissan service manual in PDF form, but I am unable to find the location of the SMJ. When I look at the horn wiring diagram shows 22C (wire location in the harness) and harness M31 and E152. For E31 it says to refer to SMJ, but no location for SMJ.

EDIT: I found the location in the general wiring sections. SMJ looks to be in the passenger kick panel. I will be checking this tomorrow.
