I have a 2008 KC with the non-Fosgate system with disc changer. My head unit is now aftermarket, though (I had it done, I didn't DIY).

How are the front door speakers and dash speakers wired? If the head unit is 4 channels, are all 4 front speakers wired to the same two front outputs? Is there a crossover for the dash speakers? They seem too small to be receiving the full range of audio. Or, is the head unit wired to the door speakers and then daisy chained from there into the dash?

I am replacing the door speakers soon, and want to know the options on the dash speakers. Where would a crossover go if I put tweeters there, etc. I just don't understand how the 4 are wired to 2 channels. Or, maybe it's a 6 channel stock head unit, I don't know. The front/back fade has always seemed to work great. I think I have had it to where only the dash speakers are playing.

EDIT: OK, having the fade on full forward means both the dash and front door speakers are powered. So they are hooked together some how.

1) If I disconnect the dash speakers, can I get more power to the doors? Do I need to disconnect behind the head unit? Is the sound stage too low if you do this?
2) Is there a crossover for the dash speakers?
3) If I swap the dash speakers for tweeters, where is the best place to install a crossover?

My dash speakers died on me in my 06. There is just a resistor on the line going to that speaker, as a matter of fact I think it was mounted on the speaker. It seemed to me it was ran from the head unit to the door then up to the dash speaker. I bought some $50 Alpines off eBay. They had a built in crossover and I built a bracket to get them in the factory spot.

The front speakers are wired in parallel. There may be an in-line capacitor mounted on the dash speaker (serves as high pass filter). If one were to replace the dash and door speakers and wanted to add a real crossover network, I suggest wiring the crossover at the output of the receiver. Use existing wiring for the door speakers and add new wire from the crossover to the dash speakers.
