How fast can I get this truck?

5803 Views 33 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  Toomnymods
Since I got the T 4 years ago, I've leaned towards go-fast mods. In the beginning, it came in spurts as money allowed. But now it's really been building up steam the past year and I want to get a realistic idea of how much faster I can make her.

After everything I've learned here, I'm thinking high to mid 12s is the best I can hope for in my high mileage DD without major tranny work and a turbo.

Since Oh-Five was seeing low 13s with his mods and a 125 shot, is it fair to assume I can break into the 12s with the addition of cams? (Obviously will add the nitrous setup also). I know Toomnymods was seeing low 12s with his turbo and major mods, but every .1 in the 12 club is a lot harder to come by than in the 14 and even 13 club for our trucks.

I'll do fairly extensive weight-reduction when I finally go to the track, and put on 17s w/ slicks to help.

I would truly be happy with the total money spent if I could get my T into the high 12s without a turbo.

What do you guys think?

And, btw, I'm not talking to you people who feel the urge to inform me that this is indeed NOT a race car, nor a Lightning. I am fairly certain I have come to understand and accept that fact, and, quite honestly, am more interested in modding a vehicle that is not expected to shag a$$. I mean, come on. I'm not surprised when a Z06, Lightning, Trailblazer SS or WRX can go REALLY fast. I AM surprised when a debadged Syclone or ...... wait for it.... a 4x4 Nis$an TlTAN crew cab weighing almost 6k does.

You can hit high 12's without a turbo... You need Up/Rev, JWT Cam's, header's & a good nitrous wet kit! :)

I really think all I'm lacking is the NOS and cams.
Yea man! Nitrous & Cam's have been proven time & time again to make awesome power!!! You'll need a custom nitrous tune that will take some tweaking on a dyno.
Cams and a 100 shot you should be about a 12.70 or better truck:) Most with just cams run 13.30's and add the 100 shot that should give you another .8 with a good tune.

I'm only about 4 hours from Uprev in Austin, so once I get all the parts I already have installed, and then buy and install NOS and cams, I'll be headed straight to them to get tuned.
Heck, I'll probably just save up a little extra and have them install the cams for me.

If you're going to do it do it right.

Cams
Headers & full exhaust
intake
Forged internals
High compression forged pistons (make it all motor?)
Cool plugs
high octane
port polish
nitrous.

Without a upgraded trans and vb I really don't think a high milage titan will stay in the 12's for long..
I blew my first trans around 56kmiles..
the transgo vb upgrade wouldve probably sufficed until i was turboed though.

to get deep into the 12's add cams, nitrous, vb upgrade , 3200 stall, headers and uprev..

13.6 is the best a 04-06 titan has ran with s2 cams and no trans work ( stall and vb mod)
13.3 is the best a 07+ titan has ran with jwt s7 cams and transgo vb upgrade
I've already got:

uprev, LT headers, hi-flow cats, CAI, & exhaust

and am waiting to install TT, Transgo & LPD cooler

So after that it's cams, 07+ IM and NOS. Hopefully like Chris said the Transgo will help my trans last as long as possible. But, even without dogging the hell out of it my trans only has so long left in it anyways. At that point I'll get a bullet-proof with stall conversion.

Beating other Ts isn't as fun as smoking stock 'vettes.

I just don't see many T owners doing this, and I don't want to be the cost-is-no-option guinea pig.
Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd love to have an all-motor NA T in the 12s, I just don't see it happening without NOS. (at least, happening semi cost-efficiently)
Well your being realistic. :)

Yea, forged internals would be nice, but expensive! I think you'll be good with just the TransGo Kit & an external cooler on your trans. I'd go with the JWT S7/S2 Cam Set also.

Realistically how much would it cost to get forged heads and what do you think the power gains would be? I've thought about my friends mustang flies now after putting some forged heads in. I'm screwed on TruTrac since I'm an '08.
Sorry to thread jack but since were on talking about heads.

I'm sure it would be into the thousand's to have the bottom end built. Our stock head's already flow very well! It's the stock intake manfold that is holding us back in that area. Having forged internals allows you to make way more power w/o anything breaking. So if you had a Turbo T like Toomnymod's, you could turn the boost up a lot higher.

Just swap the rear end to an '06. You'd be surprised at how many T owners have done this just so they could add the TT.

IT'S ABOUT TIME WE GOT AN AFTERMARKET IM!!! Short, fat runners, anyone?

Seriously, guys. Someone with deeper pockets than me needs to have this R&D'd with forethought to a decent production run. Being as this is the single part holding back T owners' options at this point, I think anyone could see a nice profit potential indeed.

And to think, for the scratch I spent to go fast I could have gone this direction instead:

Duh to entertain the children for long drives and not strain there little necks to keep looking up at the overhead. The steering wheel I agree bc I drive with one hand on top like most of us do. Haha but still think it's cool. Not gonna lie.
