I've got a 06 crew cab. I believe it has the 2.94 gears by doing the 70mph test that I read about on here. We are looking at travel trailers and I'm concerned about what I should limit my weight to. I've read anywhere from 7000 to 9400lbs is my capacity. So I'm asking for input from you guys. The trailer that wife likes "wants" has a dry weight of 6500lbs. To me that's more than I would "enjoy" towing. Any feedback is appreciated. I've hauled trailers before but never had one at my disposal to use on regular basis so I want to make sure I get one that doesn't cause "discomfort" on the truck or my knuckles!! Thanks for your advice

5000 is about all I would think would be "safe". Comfortable? You'll get shoved around and the hills will be a PITA...

your rated for 7200, I would say 5000 total, but depends on how many people and gear you have in the truck, as that will reduce you from that 7200, need some trailer brakes too.

No doubt brake controller and a WD hitch. My rig is 29' total, with 720 lb hitch weight. LT tires would help a lot. I have air bags as well, but they are really overkill. I still get moved around on the interstate, but nothing serious.

Just don't get too big of a rig, equip it right, check and do the proper maintenance, and tow with a brain and you'll be fine. The Titan is a towing beast.

Don't expect to be driving 75 MPH with a heavy trailer. Plan to be driving 65 MPH. Will you be in the mountains? In my mind, the manufacturers set the towing capacity thinking that you're going to be pulling a trailer throughout Florida, not into the mountains. Towing heavy up a mountain pass presents an entirely different set of challenges for the Titan that will tax the engine and, most importantly, the transmission.

A rule of thumb that I follow is to not exceed 80% of your towing capacity. That gives the truck a good buffer.

I'm in OK so not a lot of mountains but there is is some change in terrain. Yea 60-65 MPH will be my friend. We won't be going on long trips say to CO or FL.
I agree if my capacity is say 7400 I'm trying to get camper around 5500. I figure with what ever gear and 3 small kids we would be no more than 6500.

You can figure on putting close to 1000 lbs of clothes, chairs, food, and misc supplies in the camper. It will be close to 6500 lbs when your ready to roll.

It would be right at the limit, which is usually not ideal. Could you pull it? Yes. Would it be pleasant? Probably not.

My campers box is 25'. Tongue, bumper, end to end is 29. Windy conditions, semis and buses passing, ruts in the road, all make for interesting driving. My camper tires are rated at 60 mph also.

I wouldn't.. Having to much Tow Vehicle is never a bad thing, but having to much Trailer is. Stepping up even to just a Gasser XD would be wise, it has the weight to keep 8k under control but it rideserves like your 1/2 ton.

I tow a Forest River Cherokee 254q with my 2011 Titan SV. Dry weight is just shy of 6,000 pounds, and I figure fully loaded with my wife and myself, plus supplies, etc, I am probably at about 7200 pounds on the trailer. I feel very comfortable with towing this unit , it pulls and stops very well. I don't think I would want to go any bigger with a trailer, and Yes, I have the "Max Utility " (big tow) package.
