Personally, I would either install the Banks as is and enjoy it or return it and get something different. Sounds like you just bought your truck, take your time on the mods and make sure you research well before jumping in.

I'm not aware of anything you can do to modify the Banks to get the torque back lower in the curve. You haven't really lost it completely, it just moved up the curve some. CAI will offset the feel to a small degree as well.

Like stated above, modifications to your stock set up will often show gains in HP and TQ, you just have to watch their graphs on where the gains are, and if it sacrifices in other areas. Take Uprev for instance; they don't really show outstanding gains, but the track times are astonishing and the performance is proven. All exhausts and intakes will show gains(or they wouldn't sell, haha), its all in where you want it.

Now, to answer your question: a smaller diameter Y-pipe(around stock diameter or up to 2 1/4) will get the low end back, but the top HP numbers they advertise may not be what you get. However, if you plan on getting the cams anytime soon, go with the banks as it is designed.

With a good CAI you should regain any loss from the Banks.

I just drove a truck with 3" headers, stock b pipe, 3" true dual Banks exhaust and cams yesterday. I will have to say that I like the low end of my truck compared to his better. We discussed the exhaust a fair bit and If I were you and you like the banks, I would get yourself some Nismo headers and 2.25" Bpipes with high flow cats. You should get back a good bit of the low end and still have the banks sound you love so much. Good luck and happy modding.

The Bpipe is just what we call the short pipe that has the resonator and lower O2 sensor in it and it sits between the headers and Y pipe but is as, if not more important to proper flow than the Y piping. I used 2.25" pipe on my b pipes and 94035 Magnaflow high flow cats with the stock O2 sensors plugged right into the new cats. I am still designing my Y pipe so I can't give you specifics as far as a complete parts list but I will use the Dr Gas Y collector and have them send me the proper mandrel bent tubing to finish off the custom Y piping. They charge 15 for shallow bends and 25 for steep bends. If you figure out what angles and lengths you need and take them to a competent shop and they can weld them up for you. I couldn't find anybody that didn't want to charge me an arm and a leg for mandrel bent pipe. With a lot of shops, as soon as you mention mandrel bends they double the price and I didn't even want SS pipe. There are places where you could buy a premade pipe but I don't know where or how much and I want the Dr Gas Y collector in mine so I'm willing to go to the trouble. Good luck and happy modding.

HAHA, I know what you mean, I got a BANKS exhaust also. One time I was going down a street and there was a bunch of cars parked on the side of the road, so i floored it and picked up 5000 RPM and all the car alarms went off :smoke:
