How to remove? - Overhead console

29721 Views 19 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Firestingwisher
My Titan is a King Cab without a sunroof, but I suspect most of our header consoles attach in the same basic manner.

I have to remove my mood light, so I really need to get the front edge nearest the rear view mirror down to get to the bulb. I removed 5 screws by opening up the compartments, this was all very easy and straight forward. At this point most of the center console hung down from the ceiling but the front part where the mood light and courtesy lights are remained attached somehow. How do I unclip/un-attach the very front edge so I can get to the mood light?

As it is winter here plastic is not at all pliable right now, so I really need to know if there are special plastic clips and how they work, otherwise I stand a good chance of breaking or splitting the plastic wide open.

Anybody?

Thanks Roy....
Once I find out, I'll be sure to keep the secret away from you.

Actually i have been searching my repair manual.....dont get all touche' on me yet!

Looks like there are two screws underneath the sunglasses holder. Try and see if you can locate anything like that first before you start trying to pry off. Looks like there are definitely two scres somewhere though.

Well that takes a bunch of fun out of it...

I found 2 big screws all the way to the back, then 1 big screw in the sunglass area, and 2 medium screws in the center. The whole console was unattached except for the very, very front edge.
Out of curiosity, any info in there on how to replace the bulbs in the two triangle shaped courtsey light you lush up/in to turn on?
The console was not detached right at that point and I wonder if that lens pops off and there is a screw burried under it.
Sorry couldnt find anything detailed. Cant even find that mood light referenced anywhere.
there was something on here before about it.

I think many people who tried this ended up busting something off and it was expensive to replace.
pi3yeargrad sure figured it out...

I think I'll send him a PM and ask him to pop in on this thread.

Once you are POSITIVE you have all the screws out it just pulls down. Now let me say it is hard to pull down, and the first time I did it I thought I was going to break it. I was scared. I don't remember how many screws, but it was not very many.

I think I'm at that POSITIVE stage. The whole console is dropped down from the roof liner. The very very front edge is the only thing attached to the truck. I guess maybe I just have to pull harder. Damn, I hate that...
Sure is a lot of work for that one little bulb.
No chit!
And let me just say, that little light has sure put me in a mood...

Sounds like you have it whipped by now. I think after seeing the work involved i would have definitely went to a LED bulb so this wouldnt happen anytime soon. And I bet a LED would be brighter as well without the modification to the hole.

I know how you feel. I thought I was going to break mine. But if you want it off that is the only way.
Well, that job is done...

I had some errands to run on Saturday and after several hours of this I was convinced the inside of the truck was warm enough to give it another try. With the temps being down in the 10-20 range I wanted to ake sure the plastic was as warm as I could get it before I tried again.

I got the 5 screws out again no problem, and then just got a hold of the front edges and gave it a rather solid downward pull, and presto, off it came. Once it was down I was thrilled to see, the clips were actually clipping into the metal structure of the truck's roof, not just some plastic thing clipping into another plastic thing.
DARN, I guess I'm late to respond. Sorry bout that...I get real busy and now with the armada I rarely come onto TT... I hardly go onto any site. Glad u figured it out though
Just got my 2009 titan with sunroof, my sunroof was sticking I told the service dealer (my local nissan dealer) to check it out and let me know what was wrong well anyway he had to order a new motor for the sun roof, well to answer the question about the front top console the dealer told me the front clips holding the console have to be broken to remove. well needless to say they removed my center console without my consent and broke it and told me i had pay for a new one which cost 500.00.
Looks like I'm late to the party. I've done it, and once you get the 5 screws out, just urge it the rest of the way 'till you can convince the clips to release. I don't know if you've already gotten your replacement bulbs, but I got mine from Superbrightleds.com. They were (to me) super cheap. I ordered a bunch of different bulbs for my truck. I chose the high powered white for the mood light replacement, but I did purchase the amber and white in the different intensitys to see which I wanted more.
