I have read all the posts. But I have a couple simple questions I haven't seen answered.

Let me preface:
1) I know there are 500 posts on here about this issue.
2) I know there is no 100% solution
3) I am preparing to change the starter which I'm pretty sure is the problem.
4) I know it could be battery or cables.

Had to get that out there to let y'all know I've been scouring the forum for a couple days.

Ok, so I have having the intermittent "turn key with nothing and click, the. Turn again and start issue". Because I was there and they were cheap I got 2 relays from the stealership. Both same part# and, as the parts man assumed, were ecm relays. My questions are:

1) my truck is an 07 and the recall ends in 06, was there a countermeasure from 06 to 07 and because of the stigma people still tend towards this as an issue?; is it common on 07's

2) will the "ecm" relays work in the start relay position; same part for both? ( at best I got "should be" from the tech at the dealership after I sold my first born to get a question to him through a third party)

Like I said, I'll probably do a starter and I've checked all the other stuff from the threads. My intention is the change the relays anyhow because I have them. Just the last couple things floating in my head.

My only experience with having to replace starters was on one it was turning slower and slower. Replacing the battery didn't help. On the other, the starter simply wouldn't engage. In that case it was likely the solenoid that was bad but it was old enough that doing the entire starter assembly was the way to go.

Check to make sure all cables - including the grounds - are good and secure.

To verify if it's the starter, I got a 3/8"x3' long rod, pull off the plastic cover over the intake. Look inbetween the "plastic pipes" with a flashlight, you will see the starter buried in there. Insert the rod from the front passenger side and tap firmly a couple of times on the metal plate on the front of the starter. That worked on mine for over a month before I finally replaced it. Good luck and yes, get new gaskets. Also, clean the top of the engine really good before you install the new starter. I didn't clean mine well enough and when I put in the new starter it scraped up enough dried on crud that it wouldn't seat and engage. Had to pull it and Declan. God luck.
